This information will affect all of JustChat's members who either have their own websites or who design & build websites for their friends or customers.

A piece of legislation comes into effect from 1st January 2007 called The Companies Act 2006 (Commencement No. 1, Transitional Provisions and Savings) Order 2006

The Companies Act 1985 already requires the company's name to appear clearly in all its business letters, cheques and other documents.

From 1 January 2007, a company's name should also appear clearly on all its websites.

Also, the company's business letters, order forms and websites have to include fuller particulars, namely:

* the company's place of registration and registered number
* the address of its registered office
* in the case of an investment company, the fact that it is such a company
* in the case of a limited company exempt from the obligation to use the word "limited" in its name, the fact that it is a limited company

All these requirements apply whether the document is in hard copy or electronic or any other form.

You should consult the Department for Trade and Industry (DTI) website for further guidance.

Effectively this means tbat if you either have designed a website for a limited company, or you own one for a limited company, you must amend them to be compliant with the law.

As always the fines for non compliance can make your eyes water.

It is entirely up to you Tommy - but if you do a website for a Client who is a limited company and fail to include the above stuff ...... they get fined - and you lose a Client. They may even come after you in damages for professional negligence.

But hey, it's just information to assist our users.
