For the few remaining New Labour supporters that seriously think this government is actually doing something about punishing murderers, rapists and paedophiles (amongst others) check this out:
Blair’s prison pledge is exposed as ‘total sham
Tony Blair’s pledge to build more prisons is today exposed as a “total sham” with the revelation that a multi-million pound jail scheme stalled on take-off two years ago.
Home Office sources have revealed that the department received initial funding of £30 million to buy land and kick-start the planning process for two much-needed new prisons.
But more than two years later, no land has been purchased.
Furthermore, over the same period the Home Office has underspent on capital projects by £370 million -money that could have been used to extend existing prisons to cope with spiralling inmate numbers.
The prison revelations cast a new light on the Prime Minister’s pledge last week to build more jails as he fought to head off a series of crises in the criminal justice system, which include rows over lenient sentences, the foreign prisoners non-deportation fiasco and overcrowded jails.
He said last week in the Commons: “The reason why we are building more prison places is precisely because those who need to be in prison should be in prison.”
And in a speech on Friday pledging action in the war against crime, Mr Blair said: “The blunt reality is that, at least in the short and medium term, the measures proposed will mean an increase in prison places.”
Last night, David Davis, the shadow Home Secretary, said: “Not only has the Government failed to plan for sufficient prison places, their serious incompetence means they have not even started on those plans they had in hand.
“Mr Blair’s drive this week to provide more prison places now looks a total sham.”
Oh well I suppose we are used to this sort of thing from our fearless leader. Promises promises ….ever more promises – but once he has had the benefit of the Media headlines, they all somehow get forgotten or put aside for another day.
BTW the total capacity of UK prisons is currently 77,800. The actual population of prisoners is only 1,700 short of this. On current estimates the system will be unable to handle any more prisoners in the Autumn.
What do you feel about this scandal???
I can’t really say how I feel personally, nothing iv’e not already said anyway, loads of times. We can say it all until wer’e blue in the face……..and lets be honest there are plenty people, who through lack of NHS resources, must be going blue in the face :roll:9 years ago, he rose to power by his famous speech about being ”tough on crime” ”tough on the causes of crime”……..yet last week, in Bristol, wasn’t he asking people ”’how”’!!!!
David Cameron, (not that I trust them really  ) has had the best idea, but instead of abolishing it altogether, at least stop people who are in prison! cos lets not forget theyre not in there for nothing!! from using the ”Human Rights” and ”Civil Liberties” card once too often for my liking.
I know the media love it, but when you constanly hear about yet another ”offender” demanding his human rights etc., their victims have human rights too, those of being able to go about their business without fear of abuse, or whatever else may happen to them. As someone who was burgled, on f*ckin mothers day!! iv’e been on the one end of it i’d have chosen not to, I know you know what I mean too PB, you’ve seen plenty. The victims are the people who should be demanding their human rights! and rightfully so!!! cept no one’s listening to them. Least of all a failed musician

25 June, 2006 at 5:29 pm #228058Wasn’t it 100 in the beginning ,,,,,,,,
Then a further 200 last night! 100 of who they said were released this morning, and the German police were still holding the other 100.
In my maths…………that makes 300!

How many England fans do they say are over there? 70,000? 100 get arrested – thats 0.001%.
Sorry but as a proportion more people probably get arrested for picking their nose in public.
Lets put things into proportion.
Be nice one day to have it at 0.00% dont ya think!

From what I saw and heard reported on BBC News 24, and in the Observer today, the English fans were taunting the German fans, being racist and singing songs about world war 2. And this makes it the fault of the German fans, HOW?
Disgraceful.
It doesn’t. it makes it the fault of the drunken englishmen who can’t behave themselves
If they had a tournament in the olympics for ”blaming others for their behaviour” the english would win hands down. I hope the germans send them all home and don’t allow them any further hospitality in their country

tadpole & pb…have you two been talking with our solicitor
        :shock:just came back to update you all.
today, i spent 3 hours in a meeting with …our solicitor, the editor of two of the newspapers involved, and the Garda that has been in charge of my friends case.
the Garda seem to think we have a strong case against the newspaper if they do not print a reasonable retracting about my friend.
when every thing is sieved threw, it turns out that the newspapers done most of the damage.
we have 2 a4 folders full of clippings from all the newspapers regarding my friend.i was actually surprised at the Garda today,
because the editor of one newspaper said that they would only be able to give us a certain amount of space in the paper,
but the Garda told them that it would be in there best intrest to print a story from my friend, along with a reasonable retraction or face going to court and be sued for defamation of character and face worse consequences..we have another meeting with the newspapers next week.
but our solicitor has a meeting with some other legal heads, to see if we would get more publicity if we brought them to court.its not just for my friend, but this is for any man or woman that has ever been wrongly accused of things like this.
Good for you Jenny =D> =D>Keep us posted on what heppens, best of luck with it, it sounds like you have everything on your side.
Maybe along with their retraction they should print great big pictures of the girls involved too and show them up for the liars they are. It may make other men steer well clear of them in future.
23 June, 2006 at 5:02 pm #227602Maybe this one and all other peadophiles should be put in the same cell as Sarah Jane Porter. We all know that HIV/AIDS in incurable, but without the correct meds is an extremely painful end too

excuse me..i am far from f.uckin racist.
i find it unsettling and rude when the talk in ther own language wile laughing and and looking at me while doing it.
as they use the odd English sware words….f.uckers, w.ankers.. sluts…..you can only imagine what they are talking about. You started off well on that post Jenny. But it ended up by sounding like you have a paranoia problem! It’s very common to think that people talking a language which you don’t understand are talking about you. I have worked with Deaf people for the last 8 years and they have this paranoia. I have also been in large groups of sign language users and felt the same thing myself. Tolerance is something we Brits are good at in general. We should use it and be proud of it.
yes i was going to elaborate more in that post,,but i had to go because the kids were home …
i have no problem with them talking in there own language at all.
i was trying to make a point..(but failing miserably) that if it was a group of Irish lads being rude and making all the racked ….or sitting there slagging me off,,, i could walk up to them and ask them to keep the noise down or what ever…and that would be the end of story…( or it could get nasty and end in violence)
but if its a gang of foreign lads doing the same thing, and i go over and ask them to keep the noise down…i get accused of being racist. and there have been cases where people have been brought to court and charged because of this.
dont know if i got my point across there..if i still make no sense what so ever.
sorry..i could explain this better if i was talking face to face with you.
You made perfect sense to me Jenny in this and your previous post.
I think Amphibian is just choosing to be pedantic on this one. Iv’e had the same thing happen to me, on trains, buses etc., Iv’e sometimes made a sarcastic comment but other times have just ignored it, after all, all they’re doing is showing and PROVING!!! their own ignorance eh
