I don’t know if a thread like this will work on JC or whether it will degenerate, but hey, who cares! With all the doom and gloom in the world today, maybe we should do more to count our blessings.

We all touch other peoples lives in many ways every day, and often it’s the simple things that make a difference, so I just wondered…..who has inspired you or touched your life in a way that really mattered in that moment?

I have many, and no doubt I’ll add to this thread later if it doesn’t go awry and end up deleted. Often it’s relatively small things that can make a difference, but one is very fresh for me right now and is a “biggy”.

Last night I visited a friend who is dying of cancer – she has weeks, if not days, to live. Don’t worry, this isn’t going to get all maudling! She has had cancer in all the time I have known her, yet she’s one of the most happy-go-lucky people I know. She has taken everything in her stride and always had a smile and looked after others, made sure they were ok, including nursing two friends through the same illness to their death. When she was told she had weeks to live (3 weeks ago) everyone else fell apart and once again she took it in her stride (I’m not saying she hasn’t had her moments, she’s not a saint!). She is carrying on life in as normal a way as she can, she won’t see Christmas so she’s bought her kids some early presents and given them now so she can see their enjoyment. There we were last night drinking champagne, eating home-made crab pate on blinis, talking about life, it’s blessings, how she is facing the end and the plans she has in place, and the overwhelming sense of peace, serenity and love was so overwhelmingly beautiful.

She has planned her funeral – bright clothes, a celebration of her life, and a big party in the pub across the road from the church where she married. She has some surprises up her sleeve for us, and you just know that although we’ll all be sad to say goodbye people will leave her funeral feeling good about life.

She is truly an inspiration and has reinforced what I already knew – that even when you’re facing the end, life is about living, not dying; that every day in this world is so special and so filled with blessings – even if we have to look bloody hard to find them sometimes; that material things are just window dressing and the important things are the love of your family and friends.

So go on – who has inspired you?

nice thread, jen my wishes u to and ur friend and family at this time…

well my Mother is my inspiration in life, as without her thru the last 4yrs things wouldnt be as easy for me, for the last 16yrs she’s has cared for my gran til her last day on earth, never moan’d or groan’d, then for the last 3yrs she has had myself and my kids to care for, and still she never moans or groans, she makes sure we all have what we need, and even when Im very low in moods she will find a way to try and ease things for us all. thru my knee problems inwhich especially this last yr has been hard, she always has a soathing word to say. and always says, just rem there’s always someone worst off than us, we have family, we have each other and we have hope…. and especailly humour…
My Mother has helped me more than surgeons or doctors, and always will be there for us, and as especailly helped me with the hurdles of even if I can’t physically do simple tasks, she doesnt take over, just finds a way inwhich I can do these things…

My dad. Had his first triple heart bypass when he was 39. It was at this time he was diagnosed with diabetes. He changed his lifestyle and carried on with his life as if each day was his last. He had his quadruple bypass some 15 years later (approx), again, althou he must have been terrified, he never let it show. In fact, as it was the day I was taking one of my exams, I wasn’t told the exact date. When we went to london to see him, he insisted we went on a tour bus to see london!

Throughout this time, he always always, always grafted hard to give us the things that he never had when growing up. He never complained, just said you had to make the most of things. He was an extremely proud man and had many friends.

It was a privledge to have him as my dad.

My sister-in-law, she took no notice of me being a stroppy, independant mare wanting to do things on my own and insisted on taking me to some of my Radio Therapy sessions. She wouldnt take no for an answer however hard I fought and made the days as pleasant as she could for me. It was damn hard to give into her but I knew it wasnt easy for her to arrange to take me, so I just sat back and enjoyed the lunches and the laughter we shared.

We had always got on well but through this we formed a special bond and I’ll always be grateful for the patience, determination and love she showed me.

Ok – I have so many people in my life that inspire that I can’t name each one and reasons for their inspiration. I would be writing a novel and honestly, I don’t have the time for that. So, in the short term without getting personal, I’m going with Elle MacPherson. She’s 43 and a knockout. I’ll admit to my girl crush on her. 8-[

    Mother Theresa.

Im always inspired by someone facing death like your friend, it amazes me the acceptance of it all, none of this “why me”… its those of us left around with our happy go lucky lives that seem to have the trouble accepting it. Its as though they are blessed with some sort of peace that none of us can see or touch or understand.

    Brave souls. 8)

Jim Royle inspires my creative side.

Generally, I am an inspiration. Some may not agree, but then some don’t know the first thing about me.

Quite a few to be honest.

My Dad who put up with me for almost 40 years before he was suddenly taken from mine and my families lives, ever the gentleman but God help any foooka that wronged him.

My Mam,bless her,in ill health but still putting up with the trouble that bearing 5 kids brings.

I agree with GM on Mother Theresa,if she failed to inspire you then i question if you’re alive inside.

A strange one now you might think,Melech, for those of you that don’t know him he is an ex chatter/poster from JC who was sadly driven out by the abuse, still in regular contact and a gentleman in every sense of the word.

Last but definately not least, someone who i wont name for fear of a kick in the gonads, they helped me through a lot of shyte, something for which i will be eternally greatful. For some, not too hard to guess that one me thinks.

Oh i have to add, this ones not Human but inspires me to drool,M&S whole chicken breast Kievs…..the droolability factor is mmmmmmm, another thanks i owe to that someone
