For the first time in my life,
I don’t know who to vote for!
    :?

I haven’t known who to vote for for several years now. The parties seem increasingly grey with not much to choose from, mainly because most of them come from the same schools/background/ethos…it’s all grey, grey, grey with no feeling of conviction or ability to deliver on their promises…although the promises are so vague they shouldn’t have much difficulty delivering something…ho hum.

Wow! Couldn’t have put it better!
I’ve always swung to the left. Perhaps I should vote Green?
But I don’t want to vote Green and get UKIP.

After seeing how the Green Party have performed at council level in Brighton, I don’t think I’d want to put the country in their hands…where have all the characters in politics gone? The ones that made it interesting? They’ve all retired and been replaced by clones.

there are some very good reasons for the disappearance of the old passions and characters like Enoch Powell and Tony Benn…..

and the Nigel Farages and Boris Johnsons who do have character are popular because of their sneering attitudes of Have I Got News For You. Their hero is Berlusconi, with his permanent smile when caught out changing his line overnight, followed by a joke (often politically incorrect tog et more cheap laughs) to show that basically nobody takes anything seriously anyway. Then the Union Jack is waved to remind people that once this country was feared and respected by all.

Genuine cynicism triumphs when the leaders are mediocrities all. Don’t think it will last, but hope things don’t get dangerous.

Well said about the Greens, by the way, Jen

I will admit to always being a Lib Dem voter in the past.

    Not any more.

On the ‘best of a bad bunch’ basis I’ll be voting Labour in May.

where have all the characters in politics gone? The ones that made it interesting?

Set me thinking of these interesting characters…….
As well as Enoch Powell and Tony Benn already mentioned…..

    Dennis Skinner – a survivor
    Rhodes Boyson
    Willie Hamilton
    Margaret Thatcher
    Barbara Castle
    Cyril Smith (now disgraced)
    Mannie Shinwell
    Nicholas Ridley
    Diane Abbot
    Glenda Jackson
    Norman St. John-Stevas
    Norman Tebbitt
    Ian Paisley
    George Galloway
    Eric Pickles

I think William Hague will be seen as a colourful character as he gets older.

I think the election will be very interesting this year………..a very disgruntled population and all they have to do is put one cross in a box

We had our first vote-catching bit of paper through the door yesterday, LibDems.

A fanfare about them doing a walkabout to meet the locals on the 22nd, which on closer inspection turns out to be them sitting in an obscure village hall for an hour waiting for people to come to them…accompanied with lots of info about forthcoming roadworks on the nearby M5…and full of typos and lines crossed out…

Bodes well don’t you think?

I will vote for the party I have always voted for. :D

I’m going to vote for the house party.

    Next weekend, round at mine.

    Bring a bottle.

    :P
