Thoughts on this? The shroud has been studied, argued over, and tested (it isn’t a fake btw, the scrap tested that was deemed fake was a repair made to it) The image on the cloth has never been replicated, even with our advanced scientific knowledge.
Hi Nemesis, great post! And a topic of great interest to me. I do believe that the Shroud of Turin is the burial cloth of Christ. I have a book called “The Blood and the Shroud” by Ian Wilson. With respect to the carbon dating, he mentions something about the dating being suspect because of a “bioplastic” (I believe that’s the correct term) coating on it due to human touching through the years, and also being subject to residue when it caught on fire. It was also found to contain pollen unique to the Middle East. It exhibits some other very interesting characteristics such as the image is not painted on nor is it a stain, and it can be read with 3D technology which is not possible with a painting. These points are from this very good article if you care to read more: http://www.ncregister.com/blog/longenecker/the-shroud-of-turin-and-the-facts Thanks again for the great discussion!
I also meant to add that, if you’re not already familiar with it, this website is a tremendous resource, containing a wealth of information related to the Shroud: http://www.shroud.com/
The site is hosted by Barrie M. Schwortz…he was the “Official Documenting Photographer for the Shroud of Turin Research Project, Inc., (STURP)”, that examined the Shroud in October 1978.
