Yoda just out of curiosity, how would you know what the scrollers IP info is when your not staff here? Or are you??? :?
7 July, 2009 at 9:48 am #400290You make good points Jen, especially about giving out personal info. When will they ever learn eh?
I have sat in the room and watched people telling the whole room all about their most personal problems. This could be anything from personal relationship troubles to their intimate “womens things”. The thing these users can’t seem to grasp is, they arn’t just telling their pals, ie people they have never met, (that’s another story btw and we won’t go there…yet, ) they are also telling all the “lurkers” who just sit there and watch.
We had a user once who used to come into the room under an assumed name. His trick was to select any female user at random and make notes about things they said in the room. This could be anything from where they lived to what job they had, where their husband worked, even what schools their kids went too.
Once he’d collated all this info he would then come back into the room at a later date to find his “victim” and proceed to tell the user all about herself. Of course the user would be terrified and couldn’t understand where he had got all this info from.
Users, especailly female users, frequently do this type of thing. They give out allsorts of incredibly personal info about themselves into a PUBLIC chat room full of strangers, and then wonder how someone they don’t know has so much personal info about them??
Staff get complaints about this type of thing all the time, but what are they supposed to do about it? If users are stupid enough to volunteer personal info about themselves and their families in a public chat room, then on their own head be it. This kind of thing will come back to bite you on the bum time and time again. There was a user who told the entire room she has an autistic son. Of course the resident loony thought that was hilarious and would come in as “retard” or “spastic”. She of course was outraged and very upset. I can understand that, but it was entirely her own fault for giving such personal info out in the first place.
7 July, 2009 at 8:03 am #393719Use the iggy????  Good grief pete are you mad?? If they do that they’ll miss all the fun. The plain simple fact is that however much they ALL moan about the bad guys, none of them will use the ignore function because they are too bloody nosey. They cannot bear to miss anything.
As soon as the Guide comes in they moan and whinge and beg the Guide to remove the bad guy because he was being nasty, but if you look back on the room history, you’ll see they were all hurling just as much abuse back, making them just as bad.
Ironically if they didn’t have the iggy function they would moan about that too. They are probably the sort of users who write letters of complaint every week to the loacl rag about the evils of society. Maybe they should start up a web site called “moaners R us”. You could imagine the message boards couldn’t you? They’d be in heaven. Page upon page of whinge whinge whinge. As soon as it opened there would be a stampeed to get there and see who could post the most moans. The place would probably crash within the first hour.
7 July, 2009 at 7:53 am #400287You and Stripey are quite correct Sue. Jack was here long before UK Pilot. They are indeed different people. During my time as staff at JC I had the pleasure of booting Jack many times. UK Pilot might be a bit of a nob sometimes but he isn’t in Jacks league. Jack is sick in the head.
13 May, 2009 at 10:38 am #393475I’ve just had my windows update tell me that IE8 is ready to download and install. Is it any better than IE7? I’m not sure if I should or not.
11 May, 2009 at 11:37 am #396573My dad recently lost a very dear friend of his to alzheimers. He served with dad in the police force for nearly 20 years and in the end he didn’t know his wife of over 30 years, his kids or who or where he was.
Dad was asked to read at his funeral which was held in a huge church with many of his friends and former collegues there to pay their respects. He was a fine man.

6 April, 2009 at 2:09 pm #394358Same here Melody. I couldn,t give a monkeys backside if people want to monitor my emails. Nothing exciting in em. And I agree with ID cards. Whats the big deal? We had em during the war and no one cared. Don,t know why people make such a fuss. If you,ve got nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.
5 April, 2009 at 7:34 am #394330I agree Amelia. If, for example, you go to your local market, you can buy large quantities of fruit and veg really cheaply. Far cheaper than you would pay in the supermarket.
The same applies if you go to your local butcher. They often sell “managers packs” for a tenner round here. You get huge portions of chicken, pork, beef or lamb really cheaply so you can stock up your freezer.
Eating healthily isn,t expensive at all if you shop wisely.
