I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Australia ” “However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand.” “This idea of Australia being a multi-cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. And as Australians, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle.”
“This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have
sought freedom”
This is a very strong comment. The original settlers of Australia took with them the ideals they valued from British society. This included religious beliefs, democratic government, and as they say a culture that was developed over…at least, 2 centuries in a fluctuating European environment.
They made mistakes in Australia particularly with regarded to the indigenous population. And, during the Empire days, the British would move into a country and foist their ideals on that country, not always to good effect.
Mistakes continue to be made, but the idea that people should adapt to the country in which they choose to live is a good one. The British Isles have always been a melting pot of cultures and creeds. In the past the strength of the British way of life always made sure that a balance was maintained. I don’t know if the changes we are experiencing caused by the massive influx of other nationalities will swamp what is left of the British way of life, but we should certainly take note of what is happing in Australia.
