I agree that in some prisons there are far too many privelleges, but the one right that everybody has is that to work, and stripping people of this just because they have committed a crime is very counter-productive to society, and makes little sense. There are many examples of ex-prisoners who have gone on to become succesful businessmen/ entrepreneaurs/artists/journalists etc., Michael Fraser and John Mcvicar are good examples. I don’t believe that just throwing prisoners out on the streets without giving them the best chances of finding work is very beneficial to us or to them. At the end of the day, I am giving them the info, if they decide to use it or not is up to them, end of story.
I understand it costs £1.86 per day to feed a prisoner, I am not aware of how much it is for school children, feel free to enlighten me.
btw: I am volunteering to do this, no expense to the tax payer is involved.
