they are charging £150 toput up a digital ariel plus another £50 if you want any other tvs wired in too, i have 2 analogue portable tvs so i guess i will have to change them dunno lol anywyas im going to see me brother in a couple of weeks he knows bout all this stuff so will ask him
There was an article about this in our local paper this week and how people are being ripped off by the cowboys. If they’re replacing existing ariels with “digital” ariels then they’re pulling a fast one cath. Unless you are sharing a communal ariel, any ariel is capable of receiving analogue or digital, you do not need a “digital” ariel at all. If your tvs are analogue you will have to replace them with a digital tv though, there are some good deals to be had at the moment and a lot of the newer tvs come with a freeview box built in.
Lots of info here, and if you have a good local independant tv shop they’re usually very helpful too – it’s not in their interests to rip you off as they have to maintain their reputation to stay in business. Before you do anything though, enter your postcode to make sure you have Freeview coverage in your area.
We’re seriously considering ditching our tv since we so rarely watch it, we’ve been with Sky for some time as the analogue reception in our area is so bad, and I’d thought that freeview could save us some money. However, for some reason we can’t get freeview in our area, and it’s not planned either. :(
We have a sky dish as there is no ordinary television reception in our area without an aerial at the height of Ben Nevis . What reception we could get years ago was a snowy Ulster channel and we do not live in Ireland.
We paid for a sky package subscription for the first year or two then cancelled all the packages so now we have all the free sky channels which includes bbc1 etc and we pay nothing. Do you still have to be paying for your sky Jen ?
I think our area is one of the last to be digitally thingied and i have no idea if it will make any difference to us if we already have sky and no analogue telly reception. I refuse to think about it until the day Mr sugarnspice turns the telly on and nothing happens . I rarely watch any television but if there’s something I want to see I tend to watch it online. -
