Last time I posted about the excess cost and inconvenience of the Olympics – some of which I’m paying extra for on my Council Tax like other Londoners – I got accused of being unpatriotic and allsorts.

So as there have been far more authoritative reports to the contrary, I’ll stick to the party line. It’s worth it because:

it’s going to be a great shop window to the world,
    re(?)generate the surrounding area,
bring loads of tourists who wouldn’t have come otherwise and they’ll all spend loads and loads of money which will fix the UK economy
    Encourage greater participation in sport
    Make for a healthier nation
    Increase pride in the country
    heal the sick
    House the homeless
    raise the dead
    bring world peace

That’s got to be worth a few hours spent in traffic queues, diversions and security checks and listening to Sir Paul McCartney hasn’t it?

oooooooooooo Wordsy, strong words! I will just let you know that I worked in an office with 6 black women who wouldn’t talk to me…………..it wasn’t until I said F U C K when I dropped a pen or something 4 weeks into the job that they decided I was ok. Just thought I would point that out ie. typing what I have, and lived in London for years! I am still not racist, and two of them are still good friends of mine!

    so ner!

Strong words? What did I say? You said you’d had enough of the racist stuff, I basically said that in this thread racism was relevant and it wasn’t reasonable to expect it to be left out.

Having said that, your experience was interesting and I guess having black friends shows you don’t avoid black people, although no one suggested you did.

What was the ner ner ner about? :? :? :?

Woo! Hoo! I amaze, therefore I am amazing!

Terry, if you really want to tempt me off the scenic route, then you need to do more to make the direct route attractive. It doesn’t seem worth the time saved to be quite so misanthropic.

I’m pleased to see your recognition of the history to this. Much of it is relatively recent, so the stuff you mentioned is as worth remembering and relevant as anything else that relates to events of the last 200 years.

Political Correctness as a personality trait? Can you really change your personality just like that? Why do you want me to change? Are you sure you’d like the new me any better than the current one? Why do I have to be interesting? It’s tough enough editing down to 3,000 words without finding new jokes!!!

But if more interesting is what you want, I will if you will.

Anyway, nice to know my 3,000 word sermons were such compulsive reading. Or did you really not ‘have to’ read them? Tell the truth, you wanted to read ’em – you like ’em don’t cha! Gwaan, say it . . . . . !

    Definition of DIATRIBE
    1: archaic : a prolonged discourse
2: a bitter and abusive speech or piece of writing
    3: ironic or satirical criticism

I do try to avoid any hint of number two (geddit!) so can I have number 3 please Terry or were you being archaic?

But pepsi, if those definitions are accurate, then by my reading it’s possible, to be the target of racist abuse and also to be racist yourself.

    Only possible mind. . . .

I don’t want to get personal and start exchanging insults – I’ll leave that to you as it’s something you seem to thrive on.

. . . . . . . . neither one of you has that much common sense to aid you in your contributions here.

Thank you Terry, I hope everyone else got the joke . . . it was a joke, right?

I just liked having him on the telly, even when he wasn’t that funny. He seemed a genuinely nice man.

OK, I have had enough of this racist stuff – can you ‘all’ STOP please?

ie. some of you have no idea what colour/religion I am – do I go on about it?! No need!

Although posters have mentioned their colour when relevant, or indicated it in photos, no one’s ‘gone on’ about their own colour or religion per se, but race and racism has been discussed in general.

As the thread is about the John Terry case, which is about racial abuse it’s a bit unreasonable not to expect posters to talk about race and racism, or racist stuff if you will.

It’s easy enough to avoid if you really have had enough of the subject. But I’m surprised that that you of all people would actually want to stop a discussion on here.
