A SINGLE GRAIN OF SAND
In my hand I hold
A million grains of sand
Looking at my hand
I come to realize
My life is no different
To a single grain before me
For each grain is individual
Almost unique
For it to find a grain
Similar to itself
May take years of searching
It doesn’t just sit around waiting
But allows the wind to
Pick it up
Drop it off
It allows the tide to sweep it
In and out
With every new tide
Every gust of wind
It sits next to a new piece of sand
Looking for the perfect match
It may never find
Though it never stops looking
The search for the one
Knowing its perfect match
Is out there somewhere
I look at myself
And I am the sand
That single grain
Looking for the perfect match
That single grain
Beaten by weather and tide
Still I search with hope
Me

And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.(William Blake)
