And I thought my council tax bill was sky high

what i dont understand is that she had already reduced it from £417,000 to £82,000 so why make her bankrupt when she was clearly making attempts to pay?

But, if she declares Bankruptcy, then she doesn’t have to pay at all,.. Does she?

    #365313

yep i think she does. tax is the only thing you cant be bankrupt from

The majority of your assets are handed over to a trustee, who controls them from that moment onwards. The trustee might be an official receiver (a civil servant and court official) or a licensed insolvency practitioner. In the initial stages of your bankruptcy you will deal with the official receiver

Their job is to find out as much as possible about what you own and what you owe, and then to make sure the people or companies to whom you owe money are repaid. You are then protected from your creditors, who can no longer pursue you for payment. You might have to make a monthly contribution to your debts, but that will be based on what you can afford.

    I see..

I can’t be bothered reading the full story, but who’s at fault? Is it The government? Can someone read it for me please?

I think the governments at fault, because this girl has bought ferraris, BMW’s and all sorts not bad for ex popstar facing bankruptcy. Plus, I always thought bailliffs would be round before it ever went to court. Usually they take you to court if there is nothing worth taking, or if they cannot gain access or the person refuses to pay. A normal person would have had all their belongings taken for owing a couple of hundred, and she owes thousands.

The Collector of Taxes (now the Inland Revenue and Customs or something longwinded) ALWAYS push for bankruptcy, in every case. Either pay in full or face bankruptcy. Its tough, but not as tough as it used to be.

Then again, it takes them a while to get the bankruptcy order, they do give time and opportunity and she has had that.

AND she will still have to stump up her regular taxes on any earning she received whilst bankrupt.

Its not unusual, hundreds of famous people are/have been bankrupt, she makes headlines hence the publicity of this particular case.
