Ive had this conversation with you before gaz…. I asked where the free land was? I think the lake district was one suggestion. So form a queue here everyone as we carve up the lakes for you all…. just one requirement you cannot have a job or pay taxes. The fact that the lakes are then lost for the rest of us seems not to count. Crazy thinking and sooo unfair. :?

christ we don’t need free land there’s enough brown sites in this country to house everyone plus every animal thats stood out in a field right now munchin on grass

Actually Tinks I think that Gaz’s argument was that any undeveloped land should be available for anyone to take regardless if it was previously developed on (brown site) that included the lakes Yorkshire moors etc etc. I do agree that land is too expensive and that there should be more social housing however just taking land because nothing is stood on it would lead to anarchy….that was what the original discussion focused on.

A fundamental necessity in life is a home. Currently, very few people can afford to by outright a house to create a home, some can try to gain a mortgage, but not without becoming trapped into a working lifetime of perpetual debt.

Of course, fleecing the workforce harder and harder to maintain a cockeyed system where some people in this country are making huge amounts of money, directly from the public purse. The huge amount of land that has been kidnapped from the people by those who cannot now even justify their right of office.

You don’t need to buy a house, outright or otherwise, in order to have/create a home…I don’t understand this obsession with having to own your own property, that somehow you’re a failure if you don’t own your own property, that a sign of being poor is not being able to get onto the property ladder. Who the hell in their right mind wants to start climbing that ladder except the brainwashed? This driving need to own your own property and to keep climbing the ladder is a relatively new thing, and as obsessions go it’s probably killing more people in terms of working harder and longer in more unpleasant and stressful environments than we have begun to realise.

My parents and many of their generation never had the expectation of owning their own home; it was beyond their wildest dreams. I blame Maggie Thatcher and her brainwashing us with our right to buy, thus robbing future generations of council housing.

But then again I blame Maggie Thatcher for many things.

The need for housing is increasing, it is a strain on almost all councils since the decline in building public housing. The need is there so faced with buying a property or having no property is a choice many people are confronted with. Notice the huge increase in rental property and the cost to house a family in temporary private accomodation while they await public housing allocation, which you might be aware takes years in some areas.

and there Mon Frere was the fundamental approach to Genuine Socialism. That got no chance thanks to Tory Blair. Build and Employ..Employ and teach..teach and listen.

But no,, they built giant leisure projects like defunct Bowling Alleys,, cinewords, ice rinks et all.. that the underclass could not go to.. so they died. a certain death and remain a blott on many a Landscape. all that seem to survive is the steady enveloping of yet another Tescos ! Closing down entire markets and smaller communites. No little one to one shops, where I could chat to the owner over a birthday card i wanted to buy. No wee friendly butcher/fish shops where you asked advice the best way to cook what you bought.Veg pre packed.no wee greengrocers to smell the goods on display.

R.I.P Lochee.. my shopping centre of choice.

I can only agree with this jen jen lassie.. I live in a street of 40 houses and i have still not bought mine. a decent wee semi detached i was born into. Thing is one day i WILL buy it for my son, as he will be homeless.. they should NEVER have sold off the council houses.! My daughter lives in a mould ridden flat. One day she will inherit.. not from me i hasten to add ( chuckle) and she will afford a decent home.she lived with me till i pretended to throw them out !

I have had many offers for mine from .. sorry BUUUT asian dudes ! offering me 10 grand, but when i die its theirs.. or folks that buy their old parents houses, then rent out … like jen i blame Thatcher !
