24 November, 2011 at 8:23 pm #483448I make no secret of my utter dislike of drugs and all that is associated with them. I have been unfortunate enough to work with a girl who took ecstacy on her 21st birthday and died, I have had to mourn a step sister who died after becoming infected with hepititus from a life that spiraled out of control from dropping a couple of acids in a club until her heroine and consequent controlled methadone addiction meant she became estranged from the family and lost her own children until she ultimately passed away at 29 years old. I have had the remorse from performing CPR on a young girl in a night club and watching her ebb away in front of my very eyes after taking a mixture of drugs… 4 days before christmas.
It not only has an impact on the user, but the lives of anyone associated with them, albeit the stranger, the work colleague or the family member.Drugs are not clever or cool.
I know the counter arguement will be someone piping up about alcohol and smoking killing more people… its always what the users come up with for some excuse… everyone always has an excuse…
My work colleague told me I was dull for having never tried drugs.. she told me ‘you haven’t lived’ – well I am alive and she isn’t. Say no more.

10 November, 2011 at 7:57 pm #482554I took my daughters to visit some of the Somme burial sites in Picardy, France. Even at their tender ages they understood the loss, I visited the Somme American Cemetery near Bony where some 1800 soldiers are laid to rest, 1000s of miles from home where maybe their own family have never visited. The most heart rendering of all is not seeing the ages of the soldiers but the graves marked ‘Known only unto God’ – so sad! On the hour every hour the tranquility of the countryside is broken when the speakers in the cemetery play out music from the era – its very surreal!
Tomorrow my daughter and the rest of her year are attending a memorial locally.
I shall wear my poppy with pride for them all.
9 November, 2011 at 10:22 pm #482543MY PROMISE
I promise you dear soldier
to remember what you’ve done
all the sacrifies you have made
in battles lost and won.
I promise you dear soldier
that you will not have fought in vain
even when the years have come and gone
and only your tombstone does remain
I promise you dear soldier
a poppy I will wear
to show the world I’m proud of you
and that I will always care
I promise you dear soldier
to teach my children well
so that they will always remember
and to their children the stories tell
To you I make this promise
an oath straight from my heart
to never, ever forget you
and that in my life you have a part.
Lest that we forget
the terror that is war
and all that has been given
by those who fought before

November 20009 November, 2011 at 10:12 pm #482542They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.5 November, 2011 at 1:06 pm #4822667 confirmed dead, 51 injured, 34 vehicles involved
5 November, 2011 at 11:15 am #482264I saw this on the news late last night as it was happening. It is so tragic… Can’t help wondering if the firework display alongside the motorway at the rugby club provided a distraction to the drivers?
The news crews at the scene this morning are unable to zoom in on the crash site as victims are still in their vehicles apparently and they have no idea how many perished because it was an inferno.
RIP those souls taken, and God love their relatives who must be in their own personal hell at the moment.
