Even during this tough economic climate the government has given the go-ahead for 10000 new homes to be built on the greenbelt land between Luton and Hitchin, annoyingly so it has paid no heed to the plight of the people in the 2 villages that will be consumed by such a development, not to mention the expansion proposal for the airport…
It is so mind-numbingly stupid to built on greenbelt land, its outstanding beauty will never be returned and what makes it worse is there are so many brown field sites in this area – particularly the area where Vauxhall stood – its apparently cleared to make way for some housing… and a CASINO of all things… something Luton has 3 or more of already..
Grrr this whole issue gets me so mad… instead of living on the herts/beds border with 100 yds to the greenbelt i will live in suburbia! Whats that going to do to the value of my house???? Grrr
4 May, 2009 at 2:19 pm #396056I live in Luton where one of the major employers in the town is GM motors, who are currently looking rather shakey therefore there is lots of worry and unrest in the town amongst its workers… It will have a massive effect if that goes… there are so many knock on businesses who provide parts for the plant and so many clerical jobs in offices around the area to do with GM, a few years ago the Vauxhall plant was closed which impacted on the town, but some of the workers shifted to IBC who make vans etc… its looking like nervous times ahead for many.

22 April, 2009 at 7:40 pm #395548I was relatively new to posting on the boards, and I was enjoying it until the last few days when the fun seems to have gone from it and there seems to be a constant repetition of the same thing over and over again… ie some post some don’t convo…. BIG DEAL! To be honest this whole conversation is becoming somewhat off putting to those of us who were coming and posting in a genuine fashion.
YAWN
I’ll look in again when normal service has resumed and every thread hasn’t turned into a couple of people flirting or a couple of ppl sniping at each other again. :D
