Another easy one to solve ….

Imagine you’re in a room with no doors, no windows or nothing else. There is a bull in the room and he wants to kill you. How do you escape?

    :?:

    no walls?

Yes I agree not all families do care as they should which is almost an incentive for some young girls to become pregnant to escape their home situation…..

I know Im generalising… but there has to be a reason why we have the such high teenage pregnancies….. we have to start analysing why that is…. it cant just be because of low morals and lack of education.

According to Office for National Statistics, the number of teen pregnancies in England and Wales has reached its lowest since 1969, So it’s quite possible that ‘we’ have got things more right than we think and the trend is reversing.

I think you are right Poli…. why do we give single mums houses ahead of others on the waiting list for houses? Seems crazy to me… surely if teens have babies its a family responsibility? We should also cap child benefit to three children…. thats my opinion anyway

Unfortunately not all teens have families that can or should take responsibility for them. And for those who try to fend for themselves, the private housing market is atrocious with some landlords not letting to anyone under 35 and many of the available properties being of a terrible standard.

. .. . the eye rolling lets blame immigration comment, which came across (maybe not purposely but felt in our sensitive societies nowadays,) as though maybe terry was trying to be racist with his initial comment, then maybe it wouldnt have been said words.

Her comment was “Just love the way that somebody has to bring immigrants into it. Typical.” with the eye rolling symbol. She didn’t describe it as racist, in fact someone else associated the views with the far right and neo-nazism, but they’ve not been described as playing a race card. Neither did she claim any special treatment or try to close down debate as some others have, so I can’t see how she was the one playing a card, even one dealt by another.

Why was Panda considered racist in voicing her opinion that the way immigration was introduced in this thread was itself racist?

I think it was because rather than discussing the actual issue, the eye rolling of blame immigration card was used, hinting towards the fact racism was being used, which i don’t believe was the case, and so didnt need to be approached this way maybe. Perhaps it was read wrong from one or more parties, but i can see how it could have been seen that way.

I don’t think Panda actually referred to it being racist, neither did she introduce the subject – so if she played a ‘card’ surely any fault should lie with the person who dealt it? (not that I think there’s a fault as such) As the thread was about the future of future generations compared to previous ones, I thought introducing eastern European immigration into the UK as a major factor was a bit incongruous as the problems existed prior to EU expansion and beyond the UKs boundaries.

Repatriating eastern Europeans and leaving the EU isn’t going to change the fact that the UK Christmas is delivered on a few container ships from China rather than in lorries from UK factories.

    The next generation will be worse off than their parents because there are less opportunites;

    a) in employment.
The job market has been flooded by over 1,000,000 east Europeans. The shortage of jobs is forcing wages down.

    b) in housing.
There’s now a shortage of housing due mainly to east Europeans needing somewhere to live. As a result of the high demand accommodation costs more than it used to.

I just feel that the EU doesn’t make life easier for anyone. Unless you’re from eastern Europe.

The pressures of the global economy mean that 1,000,000 east Europeans would have an impact on our economy one way or the other. Other factors affecting the job market are increased automation, overseas outsourcing of production and services, lower wages and higher prices making work uneconomical.

The fundamental cause of the housing shortage is the lack of access to land which keeps the price inflated, with a knock on effect on rent, rates, and the prices of property and goods. Until the UK bites the bullet of releasing land and producing the supporting infrastructure, we will continue to squeeze the population into about 25% of the land which could be available.

If the problems are all about eastern European migrants, then what earthly reason did anyone have to oppose the EEC/EU before the recent inclusion of those countries?

A referendum in 1975 supported membership of the EEC.

British people have not stopped working abroad or sending money back home during a global recession and I think it would be as wrong to stop them doing so as it would be to stop Polish people from sending home money earned here.

I bought a two bedroom terrace in North London in 1983. I was on less than national average wage. Our Mortgage was two and a half times my annual salary plus once my wife’s lower annual salary. The equivalent loan today would raise about £85,000, which wouldn’t be half of what you needed to buy an equivalent property. The cash value of parental help has to be much greater.

The knock-on effect means later starting families, fewer children, more hours worked and a greater hold by employers over employees.

The next two generations will be very different from the last two.

Oh, I think Wordsworth could hold his own on the grammar and punctuation front. Nothing like a spot of correct English to put a smile on my face though, so I look forward to further developments. I’m rather partial to people with beautiful linguistic skills.
