A planned St Georges day parade through the centre of bradford has been banned by the police. the parade has been stopped on grounds of health and safety, in ase it offends anyone and causes religious unrest. HA ! what a laff that is.. whose bloody country is this ???
why should those of us who are proud of our national heritage be forced to ignore our rightful place in the nation. as people who are proud of their roots. if this were a hate filled religious rant. or the notting hill carnival, where people are stabbed mugged and robbed. i could understand it. if the people concerned were going to scream for the deaths of everyone non christian. i could understand it. but it is none of these. its a simple parade to show our support for our nation. i for one wil be wearin my st georges cross badges and will have my england rugy shirt on whilst i go shopping this week. and if i get time ill ask al of my mates to come and join me..

This ‘parade’ was deliberately routed to go through an inner-city area of Bradford that was the scene of race riots seven years ago…. in 2001. They could have had their parade pretty much anywhere in Bradford …. but oh no, they wanted to march with their flags etc in this particular part.
The organisers were in fact offered an alternative route, which avoided this particular area, but they refused to accept it and called off the event instead.
They said that they wanted to include parts of Bradford where race riots had taken place “to educate young people”.
Yeah right … sure they did. Nothing to do with waving St George’s flags in Asian faces and trying provoke a re-run of the riots then eh?
We should be able to wave the flag where ever we want, maybe the Asian people should join the march :lol: we just get these stories every year and the authorities seem to do their best to give people the ammunition. :roll:

It’s really no better than an Orange parade through Nationalist parts of Belfast and in some ways both sides (ie the extremes) are no better.
The fact they were offered alternative routes in Bradford to “celebrate” St Georges day and didnt want to take them up on the offer really says it all

This parade was a joint community (Muslim, CoE, Hindu- all then feckers) parade, with predominantly children, many of whom had already made the cross of St George flag etc.
Now credit where’s it due in Wasp’s direction (even if she didnt mean it like this) but this parade is EXACTLY the sort of thing we SHOULD be doing
ALL communities coming together to wave the Cross of St George- now if that ain’t a good thing (and it was suggested by a Bradford Police support officer who is also a Muslim) then I’m a dutchman
So you’re right Wasp- barking decision and one which is a real shame as it really would have brought all the communities together

In fact, if you went out into the street and asked 100 people who they supported politically and then asked them all when St Georges day was, the response from Conservative, Labour, Libs and BNP supporters would be pretty much the same- “doh?”

Interesting facts Slayer – and ones that were not immediatly obvious from the Media reports that I read.
Bradford Council made the point that they anticipated 1,500 or so children to be a part of this ‘parade’ and that they were concerned for their safety if the parade was to be allowed to go through ‘sensitive’ areas waving St George flags.
Frankly, I still think that the assortment of organisers were wrong not to have accepted the modified route.
