Cassette players cost 25 times as much as radios but of the ten items sold only one fifth were cassette players. Cassette players were sold at a price of £100 per 2.

how much did the shop earn from these sales?

I still use cassettes by the way. I spent about five thousand on tapes back in the day…all management tapes……..most can’t be bought any more. Thing is…..i thought, yes i’ll transfer them all to hard drive then CD. Quite frankly, i just don’t have the time. I just bought a cassette player. As long as the cassettes have been kept out of sunlight and in some sort of protective box…they’ll last forever. And i can listen to them every day as well through the cassette player.

Chewed up by machine, right. Me too some.. found out that some mechanism in side became tight from not using that much as did before. Needed to be cleaned from dust and relubed… had it fixed. Afraid after, would happen again so did not use machine anymore.

My 8 track did same thing. But think it was way had stored the unit. Area had too much moisture…damp…..

CD’s are great quality sound but it’s more of a case that your music system breaks down than the CD LOL. I just play every thing through my P.C these days. I buy a lot of dance music CD’s to get the classic albums….12 inch CD’s etc.

I’m going through every top 40 hit from the beginning of time at the moment and have been for the last few months. I basically find the hit on a site called ” everyhit.com”, search for it in youtube where every one  lies bar one I think and listen to it noting down the decent ones. I started when the charts began ( uk) in the late 50s and am currently at May 1965 . everyhit.com has them all on- song title and artist. Needless to say it’s a long road to the present day and a load of crap mixed in with some decent tunes but satisfying knowing as each month progresses I’m getting closer to colour tunes and my favourite decade ( 80s) I’ve probably listened to around 4000 – 5000 songs so far with a shortlist of around 120

    Wow ! that is awesome

I shall write that down. Thanks for that reference. I remember last year or before reading that some one had every single from the top 40 from 1950 to 2010 or some thing like that and the whole collection was sold for £75.000.

Thats the beauty of youtube, every hit from the beginning of time is on there meaning the days of buying cds/cassettes isn’t necessary anymore. You simply download it to MP3 format and it’s stored on your computer indefinitely .
