    Thoughts on this?

The shroud has been studied, argued over, and tested (it isn’t a fake btw, the scrap tested that was deemed fake was a repair made to it)

The image on the cloth has never been replicated, even with our advanced scientific knowledge.

Of course the Turin shroud is a fake, I remember watching it live when I wasvery young being tested and the evidence has proven conclusively it’s more rubbish from the bible bashers http://www.sillybeliefs.com/shroud.html

The C14 testing has long been debated. The guy in the article is a nuclear chemist.

How, if the shroud is a fake, has no one ever reproduced the image?

Out of curiosity , how even if we believe it was genuine and a man called ” Jesus” in the first century was buried in it, how does that prove he is the son of God? In answer to your question, why would anyone want to reproduce it?

There is more than enough scientific evidence to support the shroud is fake, in the context of it being the burial cloth of Christ. From carbon dating and more modern tests and the actual weave and sewing used to make it. That it apparently depicts a torture victim is also totally irrelevant. Torture was the norm and applied rigorously to non believers. If anything the shroud depicts how barbaric religion of all faiths were towards non believers.

This propaganda has been churned out for 2,000 years. No wonder there are still those who are herded because it is so ingrained in our psyche and virtually all aspects of modern society. For example it is still illegal for a woman in the UK today, in N Ireland, to have an abortion based solely on an old lump of cloth. Unelected peers in the HOL from those same religious faiths are still making decisions that affect all our lives.

Hi Nemesis, great post!  And a topic of great interest to me.  I do believe that the Shroud of Turin is the burial cloth of Christ.  I have a book called “The Blood and the Shroud” by Ian Wilson.  With respect to the carbon dating, he mentions something about the dating being suspect because of a “bioplastic” (I believe that’s the correct term) coating on it due to human touching through the years, and also being subject to residue when it caught on fire.  It was also found to contain pollen unique to the Middle East.

It exhibits some other very interesting characteristics such as the image is not painted on nor is it a stain, and it can be read with 3D technology which is not possible with a painting.  These points are from this very good article if you care to read more:  http://www.ncregister.com/blog/longenecker/the-shroud-of-turin-and-the-facts

Thanks again for the great discussion!

Sorry for waffling on and I do accept I only looked into because of this thread and my interest. Apparently the shroud is NOT available exclusively to test. Only chosen parts and no scientist, thus far, has proven otherwise, including your choice.

I also meant to add that, if you’re not already familiar with it, this website is a tremendous resource, containing a wealth of information related to the Shroud:  http://www.shroud.com/

The site is hosted by Barrie M. Schwortz…he was the “Official Documenting Photographer for the Shroud of Turin Research Project, Inc., (STURP)”, that examined the Shroud in October 1978.

You can check the shroud for authenticity… Errrrr no you can’t actually. Only the bits we decide and when you find it was a “repaired” bit, we will suggest that’s why your thesis is flawed…
