We have been using sat nav’s for work for the last few years and some are better than others.

First you need to remember what you are going to use them for; if you never leave your own area, you don’t need one.

If your only driving to the shops or local school don’t bover with them, its a waste of money.

We need them for one reason, we visit about 8-10 different address each day and they save time.

There are about 12 on the market and the prices start at about £70

But there are only 2 brands that are worth buying.

    TomTom and Garmin

The “TomTom” have 2 main problems.

The window screen mounting is cheap and nasty and has a habit of falling of when you hit a pot hole or plastic cup on the motorway. If the window screen gets “warm” (0.000001 C) the problem is worst.

Then there is the power supply lead, its on the bottom of the unit and after while the lead goes.

The Gamins are better design, the mounting is better and more stable, the power lead goes into the back of the unit.

From my point of view the Garmins are easier to use and for those of us on the road all day “problem free”.

I can’t say the same about the “TomTom”.

But with both there are times when you wish the damn thing would shut up and die.

If your doing a lot of driving, get a cheap Garmin they are worth it and will last long.
