Seeing the Bernard Bresslaw pic gaz posted recently made me think, we all have old favourites who seem so popular one minute and then just disappear or die too young. I thought a thread reminding us about favourite people who are no longer in the public eye might be fun.

OK I’ll start off, I took my Auntie to see a Billy Fury tribute show for her birthday recently as she adored him when she was younger he was the British Elvis Presley he died too young(aged 43 of a heart condition) but made some wonderful music in his day songs like Halfway to Paradise, Jealousy, and I’ll never Find Another You. Wonderful stuff!

    Good looking guy too

For me it has to be the big O. Roy Orbison was one of the greatest singers ever such a haunting voice his music will never die and altho gone he will never be forgotten. People forget he was in a group called the Travelling Wilbury`s with Tom Petty, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan if you have never heard them check them out.

    eve

All three of these are my faves too. Orbison in particular was The Master for me.

does anyone remember Bobby Darin , another fave of mine . His song, A dozen yellow roses was my fave. Played it at my wedding :) ( i carried yellow roses too lol)

also, Del Shannon? and does anyone else realise that Del Shannon, as well as being a singer, was an auther of crime novels? very good ones too. he killed himself in his early forties i believe.

Just as an aside, doesnt that pic of Billy Fury look like Victoria Beckham???

nooooooo i still have memories of him attempting to bugger me !! went to see him live.and managed to get to loo while he sang a song. he was terrible for picking on folks if they moved ! was making my way to table, which was set out like a cabaret bar and my poor husbands face was bright red. He said ” eeeek if she were mine Id still be bathing her” !! a weird kind of backhanded compliment from a comedian i could not stand at all and found him a bigoted tyrant.

what a claim to fame !!
