Can you believe it a whole century of film making!

We all have favourite films, favourite actors and favourite quotes from films too. From the early black and white through to 3D block busters what are your favourites?

I still think Gone with the Wind is one of the best, the chemistry between Clark Gable (Rhett Butler) and Vivien Leigh (Scarlet O’Hara) has not been matched since…. a bit like literature’s Cathy and Heathcliff :D

    Who could forget….

Scarlet: I can’t think about that right now. If I do, I’ll go crazy. I’ll think about that tomorrow.

Also those famous words at the end of the film….. still make me cry

Scarlet: Rhett, Rhett… Rhett, if you go, where shall I go? What shall I do?
Rhett Butler: Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.

Another film i loved was The Quiet Man. The film that John Wayne should have got his oscar for . ” There will be no locks between us, save those in your mercenary little heart” as he kicks the door open ! ” Its just 5 miles, just a wee stretch of the legs!” lol

    and the fight scene!

Ward Bond as the priest was perfect too.

and Mickeleen O ‘Flynn the marriage broker lol. ( i cant think of his name!)

Gosh there are loads and loads of films I have watched and cried/laughed etc. However, the most recent, that really moved me is The King’s Speech.

    lot of films strike me.

How’s Dr Strangelove? A right-wing nut in US High Command launches planes on a nuclear attack on Russia. He’s stopped in time, but a suspicious Russian govt says that if one bomb drops on them, they’ll launch a full-scale attack on the USA.

All planes but one are recalled. And in that one plane, the bomb is stuck. US enterprise takes over and a gleeful Slim Pickens jumps on the bomb and makes sure that it successfully falls on Russia.

The penultimate scene is one of a jubilant Slim waving his cowboy hat as he rides the descending bomb as though on a rodeo bucking bronco, the Confederate yell joyfully ringing out.

The last scene is of nuclear bombs going off to Vera Lynn singing “We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when”

Another more up to date favourite Liam Neeson in Wanted… I just loved this film Neeson at his best….. and one of the most spine chilling bits is where his character Brian speaks on the phone to his daughters kidnappers:

Brian (Liam Neeson) : I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

Marko: [Kidnapper) after a long pause….. Good luck.

    Ha Ha! Love it!!

Quote of the century for me.

During the riots last year, my daughter and her friends had to take refuge in one of their offices in London and I went to pick her up. Unfortunately when I said going to get her made me feel “like Liam fukin Neeson”, she just said, “not quite dad!”
