But moving on and up, anyone can write a good poem. You don’t need to know the rules of verse, any more than a musician needs to be able to write musical notation.

You can take iambic pentameter and alexandrines and stuff them in a cup, put it away in a cupboard. The rules are there to be broken..stick to them rigidly and you write a bad poem, in fact.

All you need to dance is a sense of rhythm. All you need tow rite good music is an ear for it (John Lennon couldn’t write musical notation, I believe!). And an ear for some sort of rhythm is all you need for a good poem. Just write them, nobody here is dissecting them.

There you go again… on and on.. You have made your point several times about how to write good poetry, and how Mellow’s poetry is clearly not ” up to scratch” … Infact to the point that even I think I would know how to write ” Proper ” poetry now . * sighs deeply *

Now can we stop with the little digs every so often . You have had your say , and I have had mine ……..although I honestly think mine is clearer and in plainer English than yours . As Cert says ……… Time to move on now I think.

Oh one more thing …. As for your comment about Pm’s …not sure that would work , after all , you chose to ignore the one I sent you some time ago about a completely different subject – So rest easy , you won’t be getting one from me again :wink:

You surprise me Jen …. it all looks really quite easy to me .

I would explain , but I feel maybe there is no need actually, and quite frankly Just reading this thread is self explanatory I would have thought. Of course , lets not forget Mellow’s poetry thread …. after all …that is where it all started , Unfortunately.

heres one I wrote about my ex

its not a flag you can just unfurl

I know this is the permissive age
and havibg sex with strangers is all the rage
but don’t you think you’ve carried it on a bit too far
and now you find yourself floating at the bottom of a jar

ok you turned around and told me straight
I wasn’t the best lad you’ve been with out of the 168
well that’s not bad going for a woman whos 33
now that weve finished,i wonder who next it will be
maybe a policeman or a Vietnamese refugee
I really don’t care who it is
as long as it isn’t me
can I just give you a piece of advice
stop being nasty,and start being nice
say no for once,and stop giving yourself
or else you fill find you will be permanently on the shelf!!!

Indeed. I often think that you will see what you look for…if you look for good you will see good, if you look for bad you will see bad. It is my way to always assume positive intent until proven otherwise and generally that works for me. :D
