    Good evening,

First of all, let me apologise if I am going over old ground – I have only just joined the site.

I have just been looking at the BNP website, reading the various articles on it and generally gaining an understanding of the political message they are trying to convey not just in terms of immigration but across all other areas as well (the economy and foreign affairs being two areas of particular interest).

I was curious as to whether there was anyone on this site who would, after understanding the implications of the policies suggested, still vote for them?

A little about me, I am a second generation Asian – my Father was from Pakistan and my Mother is an East African Asian from Kenya.

I am British, I was born in England, educated here and post graduation I set up my own company at the age of 24 in a bedroom. We have now two UK offices and 6 international offices.

Hence, I do not fall into the mould of “scrounging immigrant” often rolled out by elements of the right wing.

I do not “take your jobs”, but I create them – I have a workforce which includes all ethnicities – not through any sort of “positive discrimination, but my staff have gained their positions because of merit.

I have never claimed any sort of benefit and my brother and I paid our way through University by working as doormen – in fact our first business was providing doormen to nightclubs and bars.

My proposition is this: those that jump on the “the country is being ruined” route are only reflecting the nature of their own lives. They see an inability to progress, to move away from “paycheck” living, to develop and achieve and look around for something or someone to blame. Immigrants/people from ethnic minorities are an easy target because of their visibility.

Racists and bigots are primarily unable to accept responsibility for the dire and pitiful lives they lead.

This country is far from ruined – it is an economic powerhouse that is punching far above its weight on the international scene, its one of only a select few “trillion dollar economies” on the planet, British people enjoy security (in an uncertain world) and prosperity. We have so many opportunities to take advantage of what this country has to offer and yet the racists and bigots I see around me walk along with blinkered eyes, failing to see those chances, complaining of lives unfulfilled and council houses lost.

Mostly I find those that feel the BNP offers a viable alternative as utterly incapable of actually understanding the consequences of the policies they purport to support. They are usually the very same people who complain at how “politically correct” society has become – well here is a very “un-pc” opinion: to support the BNP is to fundamentally misunderstand the very essence of “Britishness”. Moreover, I feel that only a total lack of understanding (or lack of ability to understand) what the ramifications of the BNPs accession to power would be results in this this low level, common-denominator led, clamour for what are essentially a party designed to promote hate and intolerance.

Welcome to JC- I’m sure you’ll find it illuminating if you stick around.

On the BNP issue, the majority of people in this country care not one jot what creed, colour or race you are…if you’re English mate then I’m afraid you’re stuck with it. You wave the flag, you sing God save the Queen (unless you’re a republican that is), cheer for whichever footie team takes your fancy, slate whichever government is in power as being incompetent etc etc

In other words, you don’t have to justify to me why you’re English….you just are n thats it- whether you like it or not!

What most English people (of all colours, creed etc) find disturbing is a mass unplanned immigration with no cohesive national policy on education, health, housing, law and order etc. hence some communities have been changed beyond recognition by uncontrolled immigration.

Whether we are a power house economy does not detract from the fact that certain sections of our society struggle to make a positive impact (British Pakistani/Bangladeshi contribute less in taxes and take more in benefit than virtually every other community- British Indian contribute more in taxes and take less in benefit than virtually every section of the community including white british).

“Britishness” is whatever you make it and has changed and evolved over many centuries- as said before, we are an original mongrel nation made up of so many component parts- however sometimes change is quicker than is desirable for people to deal with

As for the BNP- its too simplistic to say BNP supporters are those who are unable to progress and unable to accept responsibility for the dire lives they lead totally fails to understand wholesale societal disenfranchisement and impotency at massive enviromental changes (personal and impersonal) and is a typical corporate view- it is no different that me saying British Pakistani Islamic radicalisation is caused by their total failure to integrate into British society and accept a British way of life and only seeing an outlet through trying to create something they understand from something they dont

As for poltiical correctness- classic failure to understand the hostility towards political correctness is nothign to do with race, colour or creed and everythign to do with with the failure to understand that Christmas is Christmas and if you don’t like, then Im really really sorry but you’ll have to learn to live with it- I wouldnt wish to call Diwali by some other name and neither would I wish to call Christmas by some other name- thats called living together harmoniously and not bending over backwards to accomodate once culture AT THE EXPENSE of another

PC breeds discontent because it’s barkingly stupid- being anti PC is nothign to do with supporting the BNP

And yes I do know all about minorities- my kids have a BWI mother and I’m white through n through  (although I do have a little welsh in me somewhere)

actually pet i agree 100 percent with all of the post.i have grown up in a multi coloured community all my life, i know people of most cultures that are common to all of us. i have coloured and yellow family, and i am loving their families and their history. but he one stick in the pond. the one fat greedy puppy. the one kid in the family who is a user and a thief is islam. it ruins inter community life. and makes it an inter faith war. this is my soul and only reason for hating faith, and for being “racist” if that is what i am. pisst up. p.m.t in. far from happy at work. and husbandless tonight.. litle ole wine drinker me…..nite nite…

Like I said before Wasp- you’d be suprised how much we agree on :D

Maybe living where we each do does colour how we see things- maybe if I lived in a community which was high in another culture or creed, maybe I would see it differently (as opposed to knowing lots of people from different cultures) n maybe I wouldnt…who knows?

I think that all divisive forces are harmful to our society. BNP, SNP, Plaid Cymru, Religious fundamentalists of the Christian, Muslim or any other kind, Socialist Workers Party, Animal rights extremists…… the list is endless.

I’m all for diversity, but within a common belief in our basic freedoms and shared interests.

Anyway – welcome to Just Chat!
