Listening to Radio 2’s Jeremy Vines show yesterday about a German brother and sister who have an incestuous relationship and have 4 children- 2 of whom are mentally disabled

In talking to a German newspaper columnist, Jeremy made the point that there is a reluctance to remove the children from the couple, or try and prevent them having any more because “it reminds them of Hitler and the terrible things he did to the mentally and physically disabled.

The German columnist got quite angry and said it was typical of “Great Britain that still hasn’t moved on from the war, unlike the rest of Europe”- this got me thinking

Do we have an obsession with WW2- the media still portray key German sportsman in a jingoistic, ww2 style way.

Only watching Al Murray last Saturday night showed how we still view the Germans in a certain way (as the post title demonstrates). Who really does take all the sunbeds in Benidorm? Ever want to goose step past a German cos you would find it “funny”?

Has this country failed to recognise the new Europe and the league of nations which are united? Do we still have the “little Englander” mentality.

France,The Low Countries, Scandanavia, Italy- none of these countries view WW2 as a thing of fun and the Germans to be laughed at?

    Just vondered-

    “Vot is your name, boy”
    “Don’t tell him Pike”

The Dutch have a similar view on WW2 and the Germans.

The classic Dutch joke is to say to a visiting German “Can my grandfather have his bicycle back now???”

    Sidesplitting !!!

Is this another thread that we have to apologise on? If so……… sorry 8)

I work with a lovely german woman, but she is hard work at times. I love her to bits, but she is just like any other friend and they can all be hard work at times!
