I’ve just had a tourist in the shop (we’re not a tourist town!) and he was asking what he could buy for his family that was typically English “you know, like Italy you buy fine leather handbags and shoes, France you buy wine and cheese…what do you buy that is English?”

He’s bought some Royal Doulton china but even that may not have been made in England as they now have a large manufacturing base in Indonesia.

So…what do we associate with England that is still made in England? The only things I can come up with are food related – cheddar cheese, cornish pasties…surely we’re known for more than that?

Actually jen…. how true, The only things I could come up with are food related too…. Yorkshire Pudding for instance…I once bought a porcelain British Bulldog dressed as a policeman for a friend in Australia….. you are right though nothing springs to mind easily.

I’ve just remembered our school trip to Holland…we were on the coach to return home and a teacher asked if everyone had bought a present for their parents to say thank you for sending them on the trip. Needless to say, several (mainly boys for some reason) hadn’t so the coach stopped at a shop selling whole Edam cheeses. Back onto the bus they trooped, clutching their whole Edams, grinning and boasting that at least their presents were obviously Dutch. Just before we boarded the ferry, one of the lads took the tissue off his Edam only to find that the sticker saying what it was also said “Made in Cardiff, S. Wales”. Much hilarity about their “obviously Dutch” gifts that were made just 30 miles down the road from home!

I try never to moan Panda…much better to see the best in people and situations, nicer to surround yourself with those people too….. life is too short.

Im still on a high after the Olympics…….how many people wasted energy moaning about them and mostly ended up like me….. doing a jig, smiling from ear to ear and singing Land of Hope and Glory

    :D :D :D

Do you have a sense of humour?

I thought that was another thing for which us English are renowned.

    Well, some of us. :P

I’m told I have a very good sense of humour, let me know when you say something amusing. Btw I’m not English…maybe the “joke” got lost in translation.

Ok. I’ll repeat my previous post but with an edit:

Do you have a sense of humour?
