Does our future depend on Europe or not?

    Discuss.

Panda……..i think unfortunately it does……..we have no manufacturing of our own in the uk……..we have lost so many of the brand names to cheaper companies abroad ………which leaves us to importing what we need

cameron’s party voted against europe……..what does that say about their faith in europe and him?……..the next election can’t come quick enough

We can fight it all we want but their future is our future.

The harsh reality is no-one else cares. Europe cares because we are neighbours and if we mess up it rebounds on them – it’s not that all Europeans think we’re the best thing since sliced bread, it’s necessity. Their economies depend on ours, and ours certainly depends on them.

We can have a love affair with the USA if we want, but they care more about their own neighbours in America. It’s just economic and political reality.

It’s Europe or bust. We can leave the EU if we want, but like them or loathe them, the EU will still be the biggest influence on our lives.

F*ck the evil Draconian Satanic Empire of the EU.

We’re better off on our own.

Im still undecided… and still waiting for informed debate. I must say I dislike the laws imposed on us… I wish the EU was just a common market and not the superstate the powers in Europe are turning it into.

Economically, I don’t want to wander into poverty dressed only in a Union Jack.

If we left the EU – and this is, for the first time since we joined, a possibility – then 46 preferential trade agreeemnts will be cancelled. It’s estimated that it will take us up to 10 yrs to get these renegotiated, and this time from a weaker postion. That is a major blow to the Eurosceptics, revealed two days ago – a possible major loss of trade for an unspecified period. Scotlaqnd, whihc wd be barmy to leave the UK-in-Europe, would be clamouring to get out of an isolated UK – so would I.

Politically, the EU is a total mess. That’s the reason for the eurozone crisis taking so long to sort out – a bank run in slow motion.

If we have to stay in – and leaving ins a world dominated by big, mean trading blocs like China, the US, and a German-predominant EU, is a scary step into the unknown, tbh – then we have to fight to make it work, and that means fighting for a democratised EU, committed to social justice for all.

Instead we could be heading for the worst of all worlds. Late November’s summit is likely to finally alienate us from the rest of the EU big-time (it’s all but certain the EU budget will be vetoed by Cameron, with dramatic consequences). We’ll be heading into a tighter EU wihtout any say in how it’s run.

Labour’s tactics-before-strategy approach, lauded by panda, is probably a big mistake in my view, and will almost certainly lead to us paying out more to the EU budget when it’s imposed on us next year (if we veto, it will be imposed by majority voting, with the UK in a minority, and it will cost).

Very stormy waters ahead for the UK in Europe, not just for the EU. This is likely to be the big issue – as though the disadvataged of the UK aren’t suffering enough.
