if she had been a muslim she would have been married by now and no one bats an eyelid to it as its the culture..

Presumably not in UK or other western countries where the same laws apply to muslims as anyone else about the age of consent!

Communism might have a lot of blood on its hands from the past but communism is hardly a major problem facing the world now! Putin might be ex-KGB and flexing his muscles but Russia is basically a flawed captitalist democracy now while China is a capitalist-commie totalitarian country. If they have any hostility towards us the sentiment is far more likely to be Russian or Chinese nationalism than the global red revolution!

Politicised revolutionary islam is the big threat today and it threatens the West, Russia and China alike. If former Soviet central asian states look like falling to Taliban style regimes, as could happen in future years, The US, Russia and China might all find themselves competing in a series of pre-emptive land grabs and that could lead to conflict.

    Feminism gave us Thatcher
    Socialism gave us Blair
Free speech gave us Abu Hamza

I found the original post interesting, but there is another side. As well as the Emotional Manipulator there has to be a type of person who is particularly susceptable to their tactics – the emotional manipulatee, shall we say.

Emotional manipulatees tend to internalise all the things that happen to them. They make excuses for other peoples’ bad behaviour towards them, to justify why they should accept such behaviour. Emotional manipulatees are good at turning a blind eye and at turning the other cheek

We are probably all both emotional manipulator and emotional manipulatee to some degree at some time or other, but when either trait gets serious or people of the two polarities get involved with each other, it spells disaster.

The crucial difference is that emotional manipulators are bad people whereas manipulatees are not.

Even if the logo was good grahic design, it gives off the wrong message.

It is jagged, it is disjointed – it says disharmony, edginess, discord, disorganisation…. all the things the Olympics are trying not to be! The traditional interlocking rings somehow signify unity, which is much more to do with the Olympian ideal. I also think that the fragmented design, like something broken, is bad taste in view of the 7/7 bombings that occurred the day after London was chosen as the winning Olympic bid.

It also looks vaguely like a fat athlete who is clutching their back in agony after slipping a disc.

I’m not being old-fashioned or traditionalist – there is lots of good design around now, but the London Olympics 2012 logo is NOT good design.

Today the government has announced that it will fund the teaching of moderate islam in universities.

Will political science students soon be taught about moderate communism and moderate fascism?

It was a very, very small nuclear attack. Very small indeed!

Meanwhile the Americans decide to bomb Antarctica while the real terrorists in the Middle East decide that, because the Westerners are so scared, it would be more fun if they bombed one another!

Anyway, ‘gay’ is changing its meaning again, from the word originally pinched by some trendy homosexuals to describe their sexuality, to meaning something like naff/wimpish/pathetic/sissy. Hence an 9 year old boy might be heard to say “It’s so ga-ay to fancy girls”!!!!!

I’m all for recyclng in principle but where I live (Mendip area of Somerset) we have the dreaded waste food recycling. The food in the special bin often goes mouldy and the recyclers don’t empty it properly so we get half the waste food back. Either they do waste food recycling, in which case they should empty the bin out including mouldy stuff or they don’t. The half-in-half gesture we get is silly!

A good way to annoy a multi-generational group of people is to put 2 music systems in the room and play the Arctic Monkeys on one and Emmerson, Lake and Palmer on the other, then there is no escape for anyone!!!!! I like a lot of the latest rock bands and also a lot from the 70’s but the two I mentioned above share a particular quality, namely the ability to irritate.
