Lynching by Media – maybe….. but don’t forget that for the first several weeks the same Media were actively encouraging, supporting, and reporting on the world-wide phenomenon that was the McCann’s campaign and search for their missing (believed abducted) daughter.
But this ”missing” time also opens up a number of possibilities. It has always been said by the McCann defenders that they couldn’t possibly have done anything because they were under the Media spotlight 24/7. But this only happened over time – NOT right at the start.
The exact timeline has always been a closely guarded secret by the Police. From the original statement that they visited the children every 30 minutes – which we now know to be totally untrue – we learn that they last visited at 9.00pm when apparently Maddies was said to be OK and then at 10.05pm when they allegedly first noticed her missing.
The Police were not initially contacted until 11.07pm that night. Mrs PB doesn’t share my view on this matter, but even she has conceded that under the same circumstances her FIRST reaction would be to scream for the police long and hard.
Sorry McCann defenders – but i am well and truly on the record here as saying that I think they were in some active way involved with all this and I have seen no reason at all to change my opinion – far from it.
this is what Mrs McCann told the police happened.9 September, 2007 at 11:33 am #287114Happy birthday Sunny ya old battleaxe, enjoy your day.

9 September, 2007 at 11:23 am #286236I,ll tell you something I read in the paper today that is interesting, is the apparant unwillingness of the friends who dined with the McCanns that night to talk to the media about, what, if anything they know. The following is quoted from the article which is on page 9 of todays Mail on Sunday.
“They are the key witnesses to maddies disapearance, the friends of Kate and Gerry McCann who could help unlock the mystery of what happened that fateful night. But despite their knowledge they have strangly said virtually nothing in four months.
As the McCanns embarked on a global publicity campaign to find their daughter, the group of friends closest to the couple, who were dining with them on May3rd when maddie vanished, were reluctant to talk.
That was only too evident when there was a report that a female member of the close-knit group might have seen maddie being carried away from the familys holiday apartment.
It was said the witness had become racked with guilt because thinking the toddler was the mans own child she had made no attempt to stop him.
She reported her sighting to Portugese detectives, but despite the massive media, campaign, refused to talk publicly about what she had seen.
Anxious to confirm the report at the time, The Mail on Sunday asked one of the McCanns friends, Dr Payne and her husband David, for an interview. Initially she indicated she was prepared to talk to this newspaper but changed her mind when the McCanns inexplicably advised her against it.”Also apparantly one of the doctors who works at the same surgery as Mrs McCann, told the Mail on Sunday he wanted to offer £100,000 for any information leading to maddies safe return. He asked to remain anonymous. Later however he became reluctant to discuss the matter and became hostile to any approach from the Mail on Sunday.
