The legacy of colonialism is, in part, to blame for the troubles you face in Britain now with over-population. The Western world went into many of these third world countries, exploited them to the max, and then blamed the citizens of these countries for wanting better lives for themselves. Did we really think that all those nice, little backward Africans would just say, “oh thank you Bwana for stealing all our resources, and then leaving us in penury.” The fact is, that many of these immigrants are doing jobs that we in the West no longer wish to do. I suppose Englishmen weren’t spitting on the sidewalks of Calcutta; just stealing an entire nation. Benevolent of them, what?
Obviously, the brakes need to be put on somewhere, but where? What if we stopped meddling in the affairs of other nations so that the people there might actually wish to stay in their home country? We, in the West, have enjoyed living at the top of the heap, and now some of that heap is crumbling.

I am in complete agreement. Only a few decades ago we were imploring the peoples of those ex-colonies to come to Britain, to take up the dirty jobs WE didn’t want to do. With regard to the overcrowding of this small nation..I don’t give a toss about the creed or colour of the modern day immigrant..Swedish..Polish or Inuit..it’s all the same..we no longer have the resources to cope. The very fabric is collapsing under the weight and we have to say ‘this far and no farther!!!’
Yeah..and maybe if we kept our noses and bombs out of foreign affairs..as Stephen comments..the indigenous populations might want to stay put.

Classy :roll:18 September, 2008 at 11:28 am #59327Guilty..well it turned out to be more of a swap..and it was with my cousin..so I’m slightly wavering from the spirit of the question; but I was eight or nine and gave my cousin my favourite posession..a stretchy white bracelet with piink glittery glass stones. She gave me her Nell Gwyn dolly, complete with basket of oranges.
I pined after my ickle bracelet ever afterwards, but she wouldn’t swap it baack.
Curiously, I was told by a psychic friend many years later..that I used to be Nell Gwyn in a previous life. I also share a birthday with her. But then, he also told me that I was previously burned at the stake as a witch. :PHave you ever found something like a purse or wallet, and kept it for yourself?

Theres a rumour that Jade’s health scare is going to be turned into a reality show.
Does this cheapen her situation ?If she has gone through what they SAY she has..then it’s more than just a health scare. If it IS turned into a reality show, I can actually understand the need to share an horrendous situation in order to find comfort.
I don’t know about it encouraging others to have themselves checked out though..as..
A) People don’t believe it’ll happen to them..until it does..
and
B) This cancer can be difficult to detect if it is high up in the cervix and into the uterus as would appear to be the case and smear tests wouldn’t necessarily show it up.Whichever..I wish this young woman and every other in a similar situation, the best of luck!
