When a tradesman finishes a job at a house in Scotland, it is an old custom to offer him a wee drink. ‘Would you like a wee dram ” the lady-of-the-house asked a joiner. ‘A wouldna’ say No,’ he replied.
The lady produced the bottle. ‘How do you like it, Sandy?’ she asked.
He replied: Half whisky and half water. An’ pit in plenty o’ water.More…[Read more]

Hats off to Gary (a Scottish hero). He gave up his career to spend crucial time with his family and comfort his wife in her last years. Martin O’Neil did the same. Both were at the peak of their earning powers. You don’t get many men like that. Real heroes both and I wish them every success in the future.

ok, thanks for the link (prose wasn’t on your first one was it!). I understand now – it probably WAS prose and therefore, by definition, poetry. Why did William get so defensive then ffs??? It’s not as if this was one of his particularly perverted stories (I don’t think he even mentioned ‘clit’ once for example). Maybe his little girls’…[Read more]

thanks wolf – a lot there for me to read through and understand so it will take time, probably months. It may well be ‘prose’; but I don’t see that on the list so does that mean it was NOT poetry i.e. I was right (not that I am bothered about being right, i just want to understand why I am wrong!!!).

well you say if I want to comment, I should comment – then, when I do comment you think I am being argumentative. I told you i didn’t know what i was talking about so am asking for an explanation. I would be interested in debating/discussing but I am NOT interested in fighting. You would probably drink lager anyway William

No, William, I was being serious. I believe there are hundreds of variations on poetry, I just don’t see how this is one of them. It’s potentially a very short story with an interesting twist but could someone explain to me how it can be classed as poetry?

I hoped you had just made it up on the spot but that’s a compliment, not a criticism. I assume you had a song in your head that you tried to fit it to but I can’t think what it might be…
