Oh, I’ve just found out that in fact, the Torch was introduced by Hitler at the 1936 Berlin games, and actually has nothing to do with the Ancient Greeks. Well, this is just one thought on its origins anyway…

Fire was sacred to the ancient Greeks, and I think it was to do with a messenger who ran a long way carrying a torch …. something like that Sunny. They used to have flame burning all the time when they held the Games in Ancient Greece.

All of those issues are now being openly discussed though, that isn’t a bad thing. The committee must have been aware of all of those issues when they agreed to the Games being held in China in the first place. I do think that using the Olympic games to highlight political issues is acceptable and actually carries a lot of weight.

When countries have boycotted the games, it has actually helped result in major changes.

I would have just thrown the torch in the Thames I think, and sod it…. its a tradition, I know, but a daft one in my opinion.
