There was always going to be a credit crunch.. the national debt is crippling and most people on low incomes or state pensions are on the poverty line. People’s expectations are higher too, people want to own stuff and if they want it, they want it now.

Is this the start of a major recession, or have we already been in one for years, but the government have hidden the fact from us?

There has never been a time when knife crimes and violence hasn’t been around. It may be more prevalent now, but the world seems to be a much more violent and aggressive place than in the post war years, this might just be because it wasn’t given media coverage in the same way.

Take things back a 100 years or more though, and not much has changed. Maybe having 2 world wars last century just thinned the ranks of the young and bored.

its the sheer cruelty that gets me mims. life is cruel in the natural world.. its more worrying what makes them think about it in first place. You hit on the Bulger case. they spent days asking if without the other, nothing would have happened..a bit like evil meeting evil..is it a form of inward dare ?

were they basically good kids, who met on a random night and somehow brought out the evil in each other,to blind a deer etc? makes me shiver !

Maybe Equus was more than a work of fiction after all ?

But he was psychiatrically disturbed and presumably from a very early age, and the end results were shocking!

Were the two who killed Jamie mentally ill or just cruel and misguided? The ability to disassociate yourself from your victims happens during war. Think about what was done in Iraq by Saddam’s henchmen. Or what happened in Bosnia. The thin veneer of civilisation is always ready to crumble.

    Fake Tales of San Francisco

    Echo through the room
More point to a wedding disco
    Without a bride or groom
There’s a super cool band yeah
With their trilbys and their glasses of white wine
And all the weekend rockstars are in the toilets
    Practicing their lines

I don’t want to hear you
(Kick me out, kick me out)
I don’t want to hear, you know
(Kick me out, kick me out)
I don’t want to hear you
(Kick me out, kick me out)
I don’t want to hear you
    I don’t want to hear your…

    Fake Tales of San Francisco
    Echo through the air
And there’s a few bored faces in the back
    All wishing they weren’t there

    And as the microphone squeaks
    A young girl’s telephone beeps
Yeah she’s dashing for the exit
And she’s running to the streets outside
“Oh you’ve saved me,” she screams down the line
“The band were f cuk ing w ankered
And I’m not having a nice time.”

I don’t want to hear you
(Kick me out, kick me out)
I don’t want to hear, you know
(Kick me out, kick me out)

Yeah but his bird thinks it’s amazing, though
    So all that’s left
Is the proof that love’s not only blind but deaf

He talks of San Francisco, he’s from Hunter’s Bar
I don’t quite know the distance
    But I’m sure that’s far
Yeah I’m sure it’s pretty far

And yeah, I’d love to tell you all of my problem
You’re not from New York City, you’re from Rotherham
So get off the bandwagon, and put down the handbook
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Get off the bandwagon and put down the handbook
Get off the bandwagon and put down the handbook
Get off the bandwagon and put down the handbook
Get off the bandwagon and put down the handbook
    Yeah
