Desperate to win their luxury shopping budget, the housemates have been waiting in anticipation for what BB will set as this week’s shopping task. The wait is over though, as BB announced housemates are to learn Japanese culture!
Housemates woke to discover that the living room had been restyled with Japanese furnishings including a low dining table, futons and lantern style lights.
To win the luxury shopping budget, housemates will learn and be tested with several challenges on various areas of Japanese culture:
– KARATE SCHOOL
– ENDURANCE KARAOKE
– LEARNING JAPANESE
– CHOPSTICK CHALLENGEBig Brother will ask each of the housemates to choose one of the above challenges that they will be tested on. Once chosen, they can not change their minds and so it’s important that the housemates chose challenges they believe they have a good chance of passing.
All housemates will be given kimono’s to wear for the duration of the task (apart from those competing in the Karate challenge, who will wear karate costumes).
The housemates taking part in Karate School challenge, will be given an instructional manual, DVD and DVD player to learn the basics of the sport. After 4 hours of practicing the routine shown in the DVD, housemates must perform the karate moves from memory to the others.
Housemates participating in the Endurance Karaoke challenge are required to go to the ‘karaoke booth’ (in the small task room), and five housemates must work in shifts over 24 hours to ensure that the Bonnie Tyler’s hit anthem “Total Eclipse of the Heart” is being sung constantly (roughly around 8,749 times!).
Three housemates must choose to Learn Japanese, these individuals will be provided with a personal CD player, headphones and a “Japanese for Beginners” audio CD and phrase book. The linguistic trio will then have until the following day to improve their conversation skills in Japanese.
Big Brother will conduct an oral exam with them on Wednesday morning in the Diary Room, and will also test those housemates participating in the Chopstick Challenge on their skills.
It’s not all hard work though, the housemates will get the opportunity to relax on the futons with some a traditional Japanese banquet of Shashimi (thinly sliced raw seafood). Mmmm nice.
What the group may not realise though, is that there are THREE signs in the garden, written in Japanese – one of these signs says: “IF YOU STAND ON THIS SPOT ON ONE LEG AND BARK LIKE A DOG, YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY WIN A LUXURY SHOPPING BUDGET FOR THE GROUP.” – If one of the housemates makes the effort to decipher the sign using the Japanese phrase books, and works out what it is telling them to do – they could save EVERYONE the effort and risk of challenges involving chopsticks, Bonnie Tyler and karate!
