CAR BOOT EVIDENCE ‘FLAWED’
IF MADDIE’S decomposing body had been put in the boot of a hire car three weeks after her death, it would have been RIDDLED with DNA, a forensic expert said yesterday.
Only a minuscule trace was found—as well as a “death smell” detected by a specially trained dog that could have been transferred from Kate McCann’s clothes.
The GP frequently came into contact with dead bodies. It could have even come from the uniforms of cops examining the car.
Scientist Dr Alistair Irvine, a former police expert, said: “If the body was put in the car after decomposing for three weeks, there would be an awful lot of DNA present.
“Putrefying corpses secrete a lot of fluids from every orifice and this can contain much blood. So I would expect a lot of DNA to be present, not just a little.”
Of the odour picked up by English springer spaniel Eddie, he said: “It is more than possible that Kate could have transferred this smell from her work clothes in the UK to the Algarve.
So, enough of the speculation. This is the EXPERTS opinion.
