A robber posed as a woman in a burka to get past staff at a jeweller’s in Greater Manchester.
The man used the disguise to get into Capri Jewellers on Benson Street, Bury, on Wednesday afternoon.
As soon as he was buzzed in he let in three other men, one armed with a gun, and they stole a large amount of jewellery before escaping.
Detectives said the robbery showed “detailed planning” and are appealing for information.
Chubby build
Det Con Chris Jameson, of Bury CID, said: “The store has very tight security so the ruse used to gain entry shows a level of detailed planning and I want to hear from anyone who may have overheard the gang preparing for this robbery.
“I would also urge anyone who knows the whereabouts of the getaway car or who may have been approached with a view to buying the stolen items to call police.
“All information will be treated in strict confidence.”
The man dressed as a woman is described as Asian, over 6ft and of thin build.
The getaway driver is Asian, in his early 20s and of chubby build. He was bald and wearing glasses.
The other three offenders are Asian and were wearing balaclavas.
Burka-clad knifeman in third raid
(UKPA) – 7 hours agoA burka-clad knifeman has struck a third travel agent in less than a year.
Disguised in black Muslim clothing with only his eyes visible, the culprit robbed Thomson Travel in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, on Saturday after threatening two female members of staff.
The raider forced a member of staff to fill his bag with a large amount of money from an office and till before making his escape through the front entrance.
The incident follows two similar robberies in the area last summer, the first was at First Choice travel agent in Dunstable on July 7 which was targeted by a burka-wearing robber and the same happened in Thomson Travel in Luton on August 16, Bedfordshire Police said.
Detectives said they were keeping an open mind about whether the three incidents were linked. A spokeswoman said: “The pattern the offenders have followed is strikingly similar.

12 May, 2010 at 10:06 pm #440023And i haven’t heard one, not one, “christian” calling for the slaughter of the infedel or pronouncing fatwahs over some cartoon or poetry. There are muslim extremists that do just that. Shame the majority of sensible reasonable muslims don’t get heard.
12 May, 2010 at 10:03 pm #440021and the burkah robber ?
would you allow people wearing balaclavas into banks and shops ?
The BNP’s rhetoric is the exact opposite of yours. You appear to believe if a muslim can do it in Saudi arabia lets say then they should be allowed here. It’s not the erosion of anyones freedom, it’s simple common sense in a Christian country. The BNP will never get in power, there are way too many sensible people in this country to fall for their racist policies.
If it’s not Islamic law then why the problem ? Again, observe local customs and laws, if you can’t then leave.
As for the fall out, man doesn’t need religion to wage war, just an excuse.12 May, 2010 at 9:44 pm #440018Apart from that suggest i meant =;

12 May, 2010 at 9:38 pm #440015We’re required to obey U.K. laws the French are required to obey French laws. If that means the non wearing of veils then that’s what it means.
And you need to learn reading skills i suggested nothing, hell i’ll buy you the drugs if you can find the word suggest in my post. It’s people like you who give the BNP all the knuckle headed ammunition they need.
Countries are looking at banning the veil, you got that yet ? The veil, not the garments that cover the body, but the garments that cover the face. And quite rightly as far as I’m concerned.12 May, 2010 at 9:25 pm #440012@nemesis wrote:

exactly, why do we seem to segregate ourselves into communities which seem to discriminate against each other.
12 May, 2010 at 9:20 pm #440011The covering of the face is to be banned, again priests and nuns do not cover their faces, and you wouldn’t allow someone in a balaclava to enter a bank.
Now if you’re so short of money you can’t get your emotional fix of cannabis then i suggest you go to sleep or something useful, large lettering does little to impress me.
This is a christian country and if we or any other christain country wish to stop the face being covered in public then were perfectly entitled to. If you don’t like that fuck off to some country that doesn’t mind.“The Koran,” says Dr Hasan,” says that Muslims should respect local customs.”
