I’ve seen my little girls act breast-feeding out with their dolls. I didn’t see the need to chastise them for it or call for them to stop. After all, they’d seen their mother feeding their little brother and this kind of play, dolls and prams and what have you, is all about mimicking and preparation, I reckon. You wouldn’t want them to get the idea that there was something wrong about the subject.

Equally, I don’t really see a need for a toy that prolongs what ordinarily would be a five minute phase. On the whole, I’m sure the kids would prefer a cricket set or a box of lego for Chrimbo.

How do you reconcile dying when you’re meant to with having free-will? Take what you said about ‘nothing you can do about it’: surely, with the exercise of free will I could strive to effect the time and manner of my passing. Otherwise, I’m not really exercising will at all. I’m just a swimmer caught in a current.

‘What is meant to be will be’ is an interesting Calvanistic thought. Taking it as a given, wouldn’t it mean that people weren’t responsible for their actions? Wouldn’t it imply that the most evil of men and women were just victims of fate?

Does that equal patriotism? Are any of those things defined by arbitrary lines on maps? I’m not so sure.

We all know there’s a line with patriotism where it turns nasty. Patriotic is how the BNP think of themselves. It’s how the Nazis thought of themselves.

It’s all about pride. Apart from that in of itself being a sin, how can we be proud of a flukey happenstance? I suppose immigrants could be proud of their new homes – after all, they chose them – but the rest of us?
