What kind of disco was it?
I must have been taking that non alcoholism curing acid. I knew dealers couldn’t be trusted. In fact, I’m sure I’ve seen something similar in TJ Hooker. Although, that said, getting pissed while tripping has never struck me as the thing to do. I think the acid would cut through the drukenness and then you’d get a hangover after everything was done. Where’s the benefit in that?
That said, I must agree it is a most powerful psychoactive, for good or ill. The thing I wonder about all these people that have come a cropper is, if they’d never taken acid, would they have been susceptible to some other trigger anyway. Would they have been the ones who had a breakdown when their girlfriend left them or ended up a shambling alcoholic – you know the ones I mean. Perhaps it just happened to be acid in their case.
Any road up, I can’t see how the falling of a few can mean that the much more numerous positive, profound experiences should be discounted. Otherwise, surely, we’d say no one should go travelling – after all, you might be gang raped and beheaded in a Sydney suburb by radical Jainists. You might. Anyway, safer’s not always better, is it?

I think I’m arguing for an expanded Church of England, The Temple Of Britain, that admits and nourishes any spiritually minded entrant willing to be the subject of a Just Temporal Majesty. Their councils would elect members to the House of Lords.
As the devil’s advocate, religion’s ridiculous, isn’t it? Why would you respect that sort of obvious nonsense or those that believe it? Why do these loons deserve special respect? Surely, we’d be better off with the rule that people can believe in what they want but that nobody has the right not to expect the piss ripped out of their madcap ideas.
It all makes me want to smoke some DMT. Not the punk, though. Punk makes me uncomfortable and agitated. A very worthy artistic achievement, I’m sure, but easily accomplished, when in the mood, by having some staff scrape their nails on a blackboard and torture a badger.

You think you should be able to turn up in the Lake District, having driven through people’s back gardens to get there, cut down a few trees and build a house wherever you please? I think the nation may be able to accommodate you, but surely it would only take a few dozen people to exercise these rights before the Lakes were ruined for everyone else who wanted to visit. I, for instance, might want to move into logging and strip mining. What would stop me if I had these rights?

I think these points have been covered. Although you’re not allowed to exempt yourself from the law, you’re not enslaved in any meaningful sense. A slave is not allowed to pack up and move to Tuscany on a whim. Slaves are also not allowed to use the internet, public libraries and no-win-no-fee lawyers to challenge through the courts anything they believe is unlawful in society. You are.
They didn’t just fight in wars to protect their freedoms and democracy, they fought to gain their freedom and democracy. A tradition that stretches all the way back through the Tolpuddle Martyrs to Jack Cade and Wat Tyler.
