In the area I live in we have a huge networks of cycle/footpaths. There aren’t many places in the town that you can’t get to using them & most routes avoid using the road all together.

Like most things in life it’s about common sense. Bike on footpaths aren’t a problem really if the bike user remembers pedestrians have right of way. :)
