Firstly, yes we are ‘blatantly advertising’ – I don’t think that I ever tried to imply otherwise. It’s through forums like this that we reach a lot of people who wouldn’t otherwise use our service.
Secondly, all people wishing to sell a story should use an agency, whether it’s ours or one of the other Press Agencies. If you go to a local paper then you probably wont get paid for your story at all, and if you go direct to a national publication then I really would advise that you get representation.
We specialise in real-life stories, which are often inspirational pieces that raise awareness about current issues, charities, and people that go through awful experience. It’s cynical and totally misinformed to suggest that we are just out to exploit people – our clients always get copy approval on stories that go to print.
To answer another question, in terms of payment it would of course depend on how good your story is. We make all of the magazines and newspapers bid against each other for your story (which is the main benefit of using an agency) so that you get the maximum cash. Generally payments are between £300 and £2,000 (again, depending on the story).
It’s worth adding that we don’t take a cut from your story – the magazines pay us separately to supply the story and write it in their particular style. We also pride ourselves on our integrity and making sure that your experience with the media is a positive one.
Sorry to go on, but it’s important to correct some of these myths! :?
