Yes it’s true….never has a film or movie…been better than the book that preceded it ’cause at the end of the day….the finished movie or film is only others interpretation of what they’ve read, visualize comprehend and what they want the audience to see

The main point is like any thing like movies, poetry or art…..using one’s own reasoning and imagination to grasp the item first hand is far more powerful than attempting to try and interpret some one else’s interpretation of what they see, hear or feel….

Agree. Some books I have read that were then made into films, were abysmal. For example…The Shining…great book, film was garbage, hated it.

Salems Lot…that book is one of my best read books, well worn and dog eared, the film was shyte. Yes David Soul was great as Ben Mears, but so much in the film was wrong.  For example…Susan Nortons father was not a doctor, that was Jimmy Cody. Her ex was Floyd Tibbits not Ned. Mike Ryerson didnt have a dog, that was Wins dog,Doc. So many things inacurate.

Needful Things…book was fantastic..the film was garbage. For one thing you didnt see the fight with Netty and Wilma. That was classic,if a tad gory.

Hate it when they change things like that.

Apart from Stephen King….if any of you are into crime novels I can highly recomend Paul Finch. Ex copper,as was his dad. Paul wrote episodes of things like The Bill, and his dad things like Z Cars etc.

It is rare I cant put a book down once I start reading..this is the case with Pauls books. Absolutely brilliant. If you do get them, make sure you read them in the right order. Look on amazon.

Well no one writes a good crime thriller etc like some one who fights it…..(or fought it) That’s why the writer of Prime Suspect was so good…..

Problem with bringing books to the screen is one has to rely on so many other entities like Producers, Directors ,Boom Operator…LOL…too name a few…..I mean if you look at the credits at the end of a series, show, movie or film…you can under stand why the cost goes into thousands and millions…..

And of course…..The Gaffer…..i remember when Bill Maynard (Greengrass from Heartbeat) had a show called The Gaffer…..funniest thing was the theme tune….LMAO…..some of them old theme tunes were class in them selves…..

Like Tucker’s Luck for instance……and loved the theme from The Saint…..

Ok so what Paul Finch book do you actually recommend as the start then Jane?

    #1101318

Problem is with Salems Lot Jane is that it was an early King adaptation….then the guys said…hmmmm franchise here…..so the films began to churn out……regardless of what genre of books one reads…..i always recommend reading the books first so you get the proper story so when the film or movie is garbage….you can say….i knew it was going to be like that….LMAO…….

Worst thing ever is when one watches the film first then reads the book…….

    Ge

I don’t agree, although as a rule I do agree a well written novel is usually superior to a good film version, if you read the book first. An example for me would be the Swedish film version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Karl Stig-Erland Larsson. Really well produced film (all three were in the series) with brillant actors and reasonably true to the original novel. Far better than the later Hollywood/Sony Daniel Craig version and the Swedish subtitles added a similar rawness and ‘bleakness’ as in the novel and which I read after watching the film. I can revisit the film/s it/they is that good but have never felt the urge to reread the book/s.
