Yeah I understand that , and you can ignore most , but you can’t ignore the tossers who come in in the middle of a quiz and scroll obscenities over and over then quick as a flash leave the room to come in as another name and do it again. You just don’t have time to click the iggy button.[/b]

Well I would like to know where all these soo called new guides are when you need them.
Last night was disgusting some tosser decided to ruin the quiz that was being held and the guide who was there couldn’t cope.
If you complain you get the same old story.. ‘guides can’t be there all the time’
So how about making people guides who can be there more or less all the time.. maybe do it in shifts.
I have been saying for bloody years now.. there needs to be a guide in a chatroom at all times.. not just ‘when they feel like it’
Yes I could be one of them as I’m in the chatroom throughout the day and night and so are many others.. so why not make those that can.. guides.
I know I have been refused because of ‘my involvement with another site’ as if that should make any difference. Daft stupid rule!
However I would like to know the excuses into not making others who can be there most of the time into guides… guides who can actually be there and do their job.

I’m quite sure the guides are sick of the tossers that scroll too and to make a derogatory remark saying they cant cope I feel is unfair. As has been said they cant be here all the time and we have all noticed of late there are more of them and dont forget there are 3 forums to cover!

Maybe the reason they dont employ some of the chatters that are here all the time is the very fact that they arent up to it. Ive chatted here for a long time now and of course its annoying when these numpties bring the room to a standstill but also its equally annoying and a waste of time when people purposely goad those low life morons into a full blown argument, seems they cant help themselves.

It may be a sad fact but is it perhaps true that it is infact extremely difficult to remove these disruptors permanently. I say this as a complete techy ignoramus as I have no idea how the banning machine works really. I suggest those chatters who so fervently object to the disruption that these people cause are pro-active in forming a delegation and impart their superior knowledge to the site owners then we can all have some peace.

    Hi Blossom
The fact of the matter is Guides can be there all the time. I have ran and owned numerous sites over the years, and ran a moderating company for social network sites and chatsites on this scale. If their are enough guides and they are managed properly then a site owner can moderate their chat rooms 24/7. For a successful site such as Justchat and a site on this scale not to have 24 hr moderation in their chat rooms, well there is no reasonable excuse.
Somebody made a point of them not being paid and why should they be there all the time. In answer to that, they knew they were not going to get paid when they applied for the position of chat guide. Yes one person cannot be there all the time, but many chatguides on a set timetable can be.

I hear what you saying Yoda and yes I agree more guides would be a good idea but my question is would they actually be able to do anything anyway about these prolific scrollers. Most of the guides do a pretty good job and being vilified, moaned at, tricked, lied to, berated and a host of other forms of abuse wouldnt be my idea of a fun unpaid pastime.

Hand on heart I cant say Ive never taken part in a mild wind up and have been known to be a tad fiesty on occasion but of late we have seen so much antagonism within the rooms that the chatters have to take some responsibilty. How many times have we seen a heated discussion get out of hand because someone oversteps the mark and becomes downright abusive, then whines like a biatch because they are booted or banned.

Nicey nicey all the time would be very tedious but then so is constant bickering and back biting. Its a fact that some take it to heart and feel more passionate about it than others. the different philosophies are what make a chatroom. There will never be perfect harmony but sometimes a modicum of restraint could make a significant difference to the mood of the room.

Let me add to the comments made already.

We don’t claim (and never have claimed) that the chatrooms are moderated permanently or 24/7. To do this we would need around 130 ChatGuides – assuming that each Guide did two shifts of two hours per week for 52 weeks of the year (remember we have three chat forums running).

We currently provide around 85 hours of cover a week spread across three Forums – generally in the evenings when the rooms are busy.

That said, we do not guarantee that our chatrooms will always be abuse free. I wish they were, but there are always the silly little attention seeking kiddies that try their damndest to spoil other people’s enjoyment of our site.

Frankly, the worst thing you can do with one of these keyboard gangsters is to respond to their provocation. It only encourages them to continue having a go at you. When there isn’t a ChatGuide around and you are on the wrong end of such puerile behaviour … please use the ignore facility – that’s what it is there for.

Ahhhhh ‘the iggy button’ precisely what it says on the tin basically, but so very under-rated and under-utilised.
I have been watching in the rooms and you can actually see the ‘regulars’ start to wind up said ‘naughyt kiddies’ or wind each other up, instead of using said ‘iggy button’….
fascinating to watch, mob culture at its very best i might add.
Why not just iggy the sad B*******/naughty kiddies instead of letting the comments get to you, thats what they do…say something about your mum/dad/kids/dog/cat/uncle dave/aunty flo and so on and so on…..
Unfortunately sometimes i have seen ‘the regs’ get booted too for being abusive, and rightly so, if a guide is there all parties arguing in a chat room (oh pls) should be booted until they can behave like adults.
I can honestly say in all my yrs coming in JC (and thats a fair few now) i still find it amusing and very strange how peeps will argue/abuse/and wind each other up even over a comp screen…. net life aye…..
