So he’s back and raring to go. But he divides opinion just about as much as Boyd does, when he’s on form he’s verging on terrific but too often he tries to do everything and as such doesn’t contribute as much as he could do.

I’ve heard some pundits say that he should walk straight into the team, but where? He won’t replace Davis, doesn’t have as much energy to play wide. As such, he won’t replace whoever is on the left either.

Thomson is a battler and has won over the fans with his commitment whereas Mendes has real class and makes it look easy sometimes. Look at his Old Firm debut, strolled through it. Perhaps not all the time, but everyone has a bad game sometimes. So should Ferguson just walk into the team?

he was pretty useless when he came over to england a few seasons ago

It’s fair to say that he wasn’t welcomed back to Rangers with open arms either, didn’t exactly pick a good time to announce his departure.

If we’re getting the Barry Ferguson of 2002/03 who scored nearly 20 goals then he’ll be a great asset, if not then I can’t see how he’ll offer anything that we don’t have already.

In my opinion he will vastly improve the current team when he returns to full fitness. Last year he had to try to much because the rest of the midfield didn’t help that much. Davis was great at first then went off the boil in the last month or so. Now that they can play Mendes, Davis, Thomson with him he can play further forward and be back to the guy that scores 20 goals a year.

It could word, he’d have to alter his formation slightly though.

Anything that removes Charlie Adam from the team is bound to work.

Say what you want about PLG, but he made Adam look like a class act. But then, he didn’t last long in the job. Coincidence?

Midfield three with one in front perhaps? Think that’s what Eck did to accomodate Fergie, Arteta & Hughes in the same team but I might be wrong. He’d have to sacrifice some width to make it happen but it’s not exactly something Rangers are blessed with at the moment.
