Emin’s take on how Jonathan Durden is doing on Big Brother

RE: Emin’s take on how Jonathan Durden is doing on Big Brother – 19-06-2007 12:23
by: David EminI was sitting in Jonathon’s living room last week having just polished off a bottle of Jack Daniels between the two of us when the phone rang and he got the call from Endemol saying that he would be going into the BB house on Friday.
The first thing that I said to him was “are you sure?” followed by “you better go and buy some new underwear as 8 million people will be watching you in it on Saturday morning!”
When I ran the competition in Mediaweek some months back offering ten lucky media types the chance to go through to a final audition on BB I never imagined I’d be seeing Jonathon on the show, however when you read his application form that he sent in to me ( and he did not get any special treatment as a mate- he had to go through the same process as everyone else who wrote in to me!) it’s probably not surprising that they wanted him on the show.
However what is surprising is that he wanted to go on the show, especially when he has not watch this series, had no idea who was in the house, hadn’t really watched BB in the past, even though he had sponsored it through New PHD a couple of times!, and that he was supposed to be getting married- which he still is!
So far I think that he’s doing well, although I have to say that watching him on TV dressed as an Indian singing YMCA will not be a memory I am going to cherish.
However, camp singing apart, he has so far been quite quiet. He’s biding his time and getting to know the other contestants. Once he has the measure of them all we will then get to see the real Mr Durden, and when we do I suggest you all buckle up, grab a bottle of JD and watch the show. I fear we are all in for one hell of a ride.
David

by: Mark BanhamGod, is he still keeping the Tennessee whisky industry alive and well, David?
As you can see from the latest article on the BR homepage, JD’s odds are currently at a less than impressive 20-1.
If I was a betting man, I’d take a bit of that action, as he’s bound to turn on the charm soon enough.
In fact, which way is the bookies?

by: Nikki SandisonI think it’s a good idea for him to get the measure of the other contestants before unleashing his whole personality but he could be in danger of over-thinking it. He seems sure that the twins are astute marketers, but their blank expressions when he talked to them about their skills suggested otherwise. Unless of course that’s all part of their genius! I think he’ll make the show more interesting but not sure I’ll be heading to the bookies just yet.

by: Alex DonohueNikki, he better get his skates on if he is just biding his time – if it isn’t already too late – he’s up for eviction now…

RE: Emin’s take on how Jonathan Durden is doing on Big Brother – 20-06-2007 14:36
by: Dave StarlingI believe Jonathan has been unlucky with the nominations this week in that Charley hasn’t been nominated, and newcomers traditionally have a hard time endearing themselves to the voting public. Jonathan has also not helped himself, in my opinion, by dropping not-so-subtle hints on how much he’s worth. Let’s face it, nobody likes smugness (does he drive a Prius?). He’s also tried too hard to play the role of “Dad” in the house, which I don’t believe will come across well to the other housemates.
He’s up against Carole who, whilst also playing a parental role in the house, has a certain quality to her that the British public generally like. Seany, his other adversary in this week’s nominations, I believe is safe because of the pranks he played on Charley.
I’m also surprised to learn that Jonathan was at home, with all of the freedoms that entails, during first weeks of the current BB series. Upon entering, Brian expressed surprise that they’d been in the house for so long and that he’d been in France for the past two weeks (presumably hidden from any access to newspapers, TV, and the internet). I was under the impression that Endemol sent housemates in with no possible knowledge of the current series. If he had been watching the series up until last week he would have a distinct advantage.

RE: Emin’s take on how Jonathan Durden is doing on Big Brother – 20-06-2007 15:22
by: Jo PayneI think Durden will go on Friday. I reckon it’s a two-way fight between him and Carole. Carole will edge it as she is female and most of the viewers are female. Women are also more inclined to vote and comments about Durden making inappropriate comments to female housemates will not endear him to the female voters. I also think his boasting about his waelth will alienate him from large sections of the Big Brother audience.

RE: Emin’s take on how Jonathan Durden is doing on Big Brother – 20-06-2007 19:27
by: David EminJonathan didn’t watch the show before he went in. I think if he had he he would be acting very differently as he would probably have a better fix on the other contestants. Its not too surprising that he is up for eviction as the other housemates probably don’t get why he is in the house in the first place. Its possible that he could go out on Friday however, he’s still not the bookies favorite to go next- although I think Carole stirred things up a bit last night, enough to make the public want to see her in for a bit longer, and with Seany winding Charlie up that could also get a bit of interest.I’m hoping JD stirs things up today and the public decide he’s worth keeping in for at least another week.
On the plus side if he does get evicted at least i don’t have to worry about feeding the cat any longer!

RE: Emin’s take on how Jonathan Durden is doing on Big Brother – 25-06-2007 12:41
by: David EminI’m probably going to get someone in a lot of trouble by revealing this, but according to my sources it was pretty clear even by late thursday night due to the way that the voting was going that Seany was going to be voted out by the public. However, the 300 calls that i made from jonathans home phone to evict seany probably went some way to securing JD another week in the house. BB thinks he is doing well and that he is likely to come into his own this week. The housemates will be entering a period of sleep deprivation over the next 24 hours and BB thinks this will have an effect on who they next nominate for eviction on monday night.
Knowing Jonathans lifestyle this will hopefully work in his favour as we have had a number of nights out when he has not had any sleep and gone straight into work the next day and functioned normally. ( obviously i have had a days holiday the next day on these occassions!)
On the down side it looks like I’m feeding the cat for at least another week. I also wish I hadn’t lent him those red shorts to wear!

RE: Emin’s take on how Jonathan Durden is doing on Big Brother – 26-06-2007 09:51
by: David EminWhat can I say? Something smells in Denmark! OK not quite the quote but someone has obviously upset the Big Brother producers! Whilst I am sure Jonathan was a lot more active in the house than the editing is revealing, what did we get? Jonathan sitting in the garden in white pyjamas on his own lifting his arse up to let rip one almighty fart just before the ad break.
Bearing in mind he had already bought the ad breaks(so he told me) not sure how that will go downwith his clients!
However, did seem like a normal night in with Jonathan. All that was missing was a bottle of Jack!
Funnier still when the others joined him straight after the fart and asked him what he was doing his reply was ” just taking in the air!”
His comment to charlie as to whether he missed her was also pure Jonathan. The nominations for this weeks eviction have already been done. We’ll have to watch tonight to see if he is up for eviction again. It will be a shame if he is as personally there are a few housemates I’d like to see out well before Joanathan, even if I didn’t know him!
Was thinking of putting another competition out there for media folk to get into BB9. As per last time best ten e mails that i receive get a final audition with producer and a strong chance of getting in! However, guess take up might not be as big as last time!!!

by: David EminSorry, but my computer buggered up last night and the full copy didn’t go onto the site. That and the fact that I and some friends got through another bottle of Jack Daniels in celebration of JD’s continued BB appearance and had left my computer on!
Last time I do a blog with a house full of people!

by: Philip SmithNow there’s an idea – a Big Brother house in which all communication is banned except for blogging. Would it produce something that’s a must-read. Or, something that is very, very quiet.
So, David, are you shocked by the latest turn of events? Or did you keep your wedding invite in a safe place?Report this post | Login to post
RE: Emin’s take on how Jonathan Durden is doing on Big Brother – 28-06-2007 16:20
by: David EminOk, strictly between us media folk…. yes he did ask to go but I have been speaking all today with my BB contacts and he is now staying in the house . BB has spoken with him and he has agreed to stay on. This is down to JD but bb think he is doing well and it would be a mistake to go
However, there is an issue outside of the house which could mean he still goes. Can’t give any details I’m afraid- but its not the wedding. If it is, I better get on with my speech. As well as introducing JD to BB I also introduced him to the future Mrs Durden, so both me and Mrs E would be rather upset if he ties the knot without us there! The wedding isn’t planned till later in the year.
