Y’all may have noticed the disappearance of a thread myself and Pepper set up to showcase our stuff under the banner of FRAGMENTS. Well we got to thinking that maybe this was too elitist if not pretentious and just asking for a good kicking from the usual suspects, so we dumped it.
However, from there came the seed of another idea..that all the poets and writers here each have their own little collection of work under their own title (I claim FRAGMENTS for myself :P) so that we can more readily access the work and regard the growth of same. I think it would be marvellous to see groupings of..say..Minim’s poetry..Ruby’s stories and poetry..Cath’s..FMN’s and so on. It would also prevent individual poems from being buried when one poet follows on quickly from another before the previous work has had time to breathe.
So..can we have a show of hands from those interested in individually showcasing their talents..don’t be shy..you know it makes sense. Don’tcha?

    Mrs Rundgrens Compaint

    They delete everything these days,
    it was,
    even in the Arts,
    the incessant use of ’twas’,
    or similar,
that so enraged those apoplectic farts.

I just got a letter through the post today, I am to be a published poet :)

Ok… just the one, and in an anthology, but it is a proper one, not one of those, buy a copy and we’ll print your poem types. I have to grab my own ankle and pull myself down to earth a little here ‘cos I know there are lots of so called publishers who will publish just about any old stuff just because they know folks will pay hard cash to see their work in a published tome.

Anyway, in their letter they say: “your poem has ben selected on merit. I am sure others will appreciate it as much as I did…..etc.” And…. I don’t have to buy a copy, they will publish it anyway!

So I am going to take it at face value and be pleased and excited. I may even submit others now. :)

Esme….i like reading everyone’s poems in the same thread, but on other sites each individual poem has its own thread and people critque them voraciously! That would be overwhelming I think, but if you and pepper want to separate out your poems, I for one don’t mind at all, please feel free.

Well done, Minim, I hope this encourages you to keep sending off your work. I have been writing since my early teens and published since my early twenties, appearing alongside other nominees in the national press when I was nominated for The Forward Prize, and in umpteen publications both under my own name and latterly under a nom- de plume which I borrowed from my granny. This resulting in a stand-off with my bank when I got a payment from a newspaper made out to my moniker and I couldn’t prove that it was me. Fortunately that was subsequently sorted out.
I wrote for BBC Scotland’s comedy unit for many years in tandem with my plays and poetry and discovered that whilst i loved making people laugh, I hated the fanfare that came with it and ditto with my other scribblings..hence the usage of the ndp. I’m probably one of the few people nowadays to crave anonymity as opposed to fame, which is why I love the notion of the masked-ball that is JC.
Anyway..enough of me  If you don’t already have a Writers and Artists Yearbook, Minim, then I strongly urge you to indulge in one; it’ll give you all you need to know about getting published and will list the periodicals..large and small..relevant to your type of mss.
I know that getting poetry published in a decent periodical is hard work..so once again well done, Minim, I hope it’s the first of many!
