Some stupid sick person has stolen the famous sign at the entrance to Auschwitz. Why? What possible use is it to anyone? This site is an everlasting memorial to the thousands of innocent men, women and children who were murdered there. The depths that some people will sink too never ceases to amaze me.

19 December, 2009 at 7:43 pm #426291Quite possibly one of those utterly incredible ppl who try to say the holocaust never happend.
20 December, 2009 at 1:12 pm #426292I read some of the comments on this story. One of them said, ‘who cares who took it, it’s a sign, it doesn’t change what happened there, and people will remember that’.
Without meaning to seem disrespectful, I have to agree. People will never forget what happened there, and that’s more important.
20 December, 2009 at 1:20 pm #426293I do find “Holocaust deniers” somewhat weird. There is an enormous amount of hard physical evidence; eyewitness avccounts; original documentation from the Nazis – in incredible detail; newsreel footage shot at the time; and so on. So I’m puzzled as to quite how these people cannot believe that it really really happened.
That said, the whole thing happened some 65 – 70 years ago and I sometimes wonder if it’s time to move on. That’s not to say “forget” ‘cos nobody could or should forget what happened, but maybe allow the past to remain there.

This is a memorial to the dreadful holocaust and a very important memorial. I have 2 members of my family that are studying the War, Hitler and the Holocaust, they have visted Auschwitz and a Beth Shalom Holocaust Memorial Centre. This touched them very profoundly
Ask them if they think that its time to move on. They will say go to Auschwitz
20 December, 2009 at 6:43 pm #426295My father once visited it.. he said not a bird flew over head and that no one in the party of visitors could eat afterwards.
sometimes we need a gentle ( or otherwise) Nudge PB, to remind us of the hatred, so that it can never happen again.20 December, 2009 at 6:47 pm #426296Trouble is it is still happening
