Excuse me for slight ignorance.Can you not buy or do you have a free region blu-ray player? Or is it the movies looking for inexpensive…criterion…
And if purchase from say ebay or Amazon can you then not puchase what you want without paying additional customs? Guess asking why do you pay extra customs cost. When I have been a seller on ebay, and had sent few things over (italy/spain) do not recall extra fees for me as seller or them as payee…

Know what your trying…Just messaged a 100% positive ebay seller on a 35 lot criterion sale. U.s. dollars $4.25 sale. Mailing 5.57. Real cheap. Nice assortment. Asked him if mailed to your area are there extra fees as a u.s. seller in which extra charges have to be paid by buyer. Customs..? He often has good prices. It is a bidding now going slow. Up think in 4 days… but perhaps gives you cheaper way to go to get free stuff as well. Should hear back later or tomorrow. Curious myself

Criterion are about the best blurays you can get, in quality of transfer and in quality of the actual film – imho. Here in the UK, the nearest you get is BFI (British Film Institute).
it’s not easy to get hold of Criterion in this country, though Criterion have started to produce (some of) them here.. I can get them from Amazon US, but a customs charge is slapped on. Barnes and noble do a 50% off sale now and then, but it’s touch and go about customs charges. If I check e-bay, I can get occasional bargains. But I have a lot of them already, so I only get selected ones now. A new selection is appearing tomorrow.
They don’t play on Region B bluray players, but I have a multi-regional player. It would be a waste of time for me to get a Region B-only player, as so many of my blurays are Region 1. The US blurays are in a different league form the British – far higher quality. If they’re Criterion.
Many companies – British and US – tend to do cheap transfers of film onto blu-ray, and the result can be pretty awful. A lot of blurays have a funny sheen of light covering the colours. Criterion do a lot of work to make sure that you don’t get this. Their old movies – and I mean old, like the lovely romance, The Marseille Trilogy, are nearly 90 years old. You can’t see them without really crappy scratches and sound distortion. Criterion have just issued the film and it looks new.
My next ambition is to get a 4k bluray player – they’re coming down in price. A lot of Criterion (and BFI) movies are now in 4k. Studiocanal can do a good issue when they feel like it, too, – last year they issued The Third Man in 4k.

Oh……thanks for sharing information. Have many old movies myself, preserving careful casing, etc. The modern technology and upgrading can be costly..then add, change..pain..hardly can keep up myself.
But not sure what price is your way. Before responding checked into your desire..
Best Buy have friend there working 4k..prices u.s. $199.00….discount maybe then $130.00.
Ebay some pricess 4K 3D Wi-Fi. (All new) $179.00, $159.00,
$99.00, $79.00… Your’s much higher than ours?

Could not find to watch the New York festival show one you offered while back. Tried several places..have Barnes and Noble near me. All books. Never see old movies.
Thinking about Orson Wells, have the old Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte..Betty Davis..Different movie of course from Orson’s, creepy though. Watching many black/white old ones, amazing that I think Clint Eastwood started with few others of industry to convert to color black/white movies..what a difference in watching. Hitchcock..The Birds..but most interesting the Twilight Zone still black and white. Do not think changed to color version. Watching it often when do marathons with it on special holiday here.Thanks again…

I don’t feel it’s time for me to buy a 4k player yet. When my television conks out is probably the time. I’ll choose carefully when the time comes.
Hitchcock’s best movies for me were The 39 Steps (1939 version with Robert Donat) and Vertigo (a brilliant film).
