To go hand in hand with the ‘where are they now thread’

I was watching some youtube footage of the Challenger disaster, because I had been talking to my children about it – I forget how it came up, anyway I couldn’t believe that it was 25 and a half years since that happened!

It got me thinking that we could have a thread where people post about things that happened that you can’t believe was so long ago… an event, a disaster, a record at number 1, a hit movie release…..
It makes us all realise how quick time goes by…

Anyway here are a couple to start us off…

Challeneger Disaster 25 and a half years ago (incidentally the lady who was on the shuttle as the first teacher in space never made that title as she only actually got to 65,000 ft)

    Watch it here …http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4JOjcDFtBE

    Another one…

It is 24 years since Dirty Dancing was released!

    And….

It is 20 years since Bryan Adams ‘Everything I do I do it for you’ smashed all records to be the longest single at number 1 in both the UK and USA at 16 and 17 weeks respectively…

    Ok over to you…..

This one was one i thought about , then i thought jezz was it
    really that long ago ..

Marchioness disaster occurred on the River Thames in London, in the early hours of 20 August 1989. The pleasure boat Marchioness sank after being run down by the dredger Bowbelle, near Cannon Street Railway Bridge. There were 131 people on the Marchioness crewing, waiting and attending a private birthday party; fifty-one of them drowned.

24 years ago on 6th March 1987 the Herald of Free Enterprise capsized, moments after leaving the Belgian port of Zeebrugge killing 193 passengers and crew.

My dad was actually meant to be on that ferry but luckily he got delayed and got a ferry the next day. Im a great believer in fate!!

I cant believe its been 26 years since me and a mate rushed into the local record shop to buy the 12″ of Axel F – Harold Faltermeyer from Beverley Hills Cop.

The United Kingdom first participated at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957, the second contest. The BBC had wanted to take part in the first contest in 1956, but had submitted their entry to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) after the deadline had passed. The UK has entered every year since apart from 1958, and has won the contest a total of five times
