Priest ‘stole £850k’ to spend on strip clubs and male escorts
A priest who lied about having cancer has been charged with stealing more than £850,000 from church coffers to spend on male escorts, strip clubs and Armani clothes.:DRev Kevin J Gray, 64, also paid for a man he met in New York’s Central Park to attend Harvard University, bought him a piano and dogs, and paid for his piano lessons and vet bills.
Gray told officers he grew to hate being a priest in his Waterbury, Connecticut parish, accusing the archdiocese of giving him the worst assignments.
He said he made cheques payable to himself in excess of his salary over the years, and admitted to having a secret phone deal in which an antenna was placed in the church steeple to generate money.
‘Up until this investigation he had an excellent reputation,’ police Capt. Christopher Corbett said.
‘The life he was leading in New York City was much different than the life he was leading in Waterbury as a priest. He’s certainly an example of someone who was leading a double life.’
Gray told church officials and others that he had cancer, but police found no evidence of that, Corbett said. Saying he was undergoing treatments in New York may have been an excuse to explain his absence from the parish, he added. :?

Enders’ Lucas plot upsets viewers
Viewers have complained about the portrayal of twisted Lucas Johnson (Don Gilet)
An EastEnders storyline portraying preacher Lucas Johnson as a twisted killer has sparked complaints that it is offensive to the Christian faith.More than a hundred complaints have been received about the plotline, which has seen the Bible-spouting man of the cloth fail to help dying ex-wife Trina, strangle love rival Owen and attack new wife Denise.
But a spokeswoman for the soap said: “Although Lucas has always claimed to be a man of strict Christian beliefs, regular viewers will be aware that he doesn’t practise what he preaches. This week’s challenging episodes are the climax to this storyline and there is no suggestion that Lucas’ behaviour is connected to, or representative of, those of the Christian faith.”
Last month, the storyline was to see Lucas strangle a prostitute. But soap bosses rewrote the scenes after the real-life murders of sex workers in Bradford.
On its website, a statement from the BBC said: “Lucas is certainly not intended to be representative of Christians. He is a very damaged and dangerous individual who has created a twisted version of the Christian ‘faith’ in his mind to hide behind and to convince himself that his actions are acceptable. As the story unfolds, we will see other characters questioning Lucas’ claim to be a Christian.”
OFFENSIVE TO THE CHRISTIAN FAITH..
That’s why I posted this in this paticular thread.. So – It’s not priests you see in the papers facing abuse claims? Pornographic images on their computers? Pretending to have an illness, so that they can go on a spending spree?
