Or fleeing to a country that’s an easy touch… they’re in France flee to France

what is that supposed to mean, Trapper?

What country is an easy touch?

Anyone who’s been across the Channel can tell you how racist the French cops are…

and the UK is very tough on immigration from outside the EU..

Britain and Ireland are the only countries which have refused to sign up to the Schengen Agreement on border controls.

yeah thats what i mean, since were the ones paying to keep the foreign Governments in riches, if we stopped giving them money would it make them fix their Country and therefore stop people from fleeing.

Its the West that supplies money and guns so if we stopped, would it help??

30 years ago was Live Aid, and over 30 million was raised back then, more than enough to feed them all but were did it go?
There is more poverty now, more refugees and no sign of a solution.
Governments are getting richer and the people are getting poorer, something has to give.

Many refugees are not fleeing from poverty; they are fleeing from persecution (racial, religious, homophobic etc.), war, tribal warfare, attacks from their own governments and so on. As much as we may not like the way some countries are run, dictatorships, tribal lines and so on, we have contributed to the upheaval in several countries by trying to impose a western democracy on countries that either don’t want or are not ready for it. That’s a very simplistic way of putting it of course, it’s far more complex than that.

The fact is that there have always been refugees for one reason or another and there probably always will. As soon as you address a problem in one area another one will appear in another area. You can’t blame people for wanting a better life than the one they have whatever the cause. In my view, trying to stop refugees is like King Canute trying to stop the tide. It makes far more sense to me for the countries that the refugees want to go to, usually Europe or the US, to agree an approach to supporting these people in a way that no one has to take more refugees than their country can cope with and that every country makes a contribution to funding the support that they need. Maybe rethinking our approach to foreign aid is the answer, with some going to the countries to help those that want to stay there and some going to supporting those that want to leave.

That’s just off the top of my head, I’ve not really thought it through so I’ll wait for holes to be picked in it

Great post Jen, I would also add that politicians like Cameron should be very careful what language they use to describe the situation in Calais and other places, because when de-humanising language becomes the norm, those seeking a better life for themselves and their families eventually become less than human in the eyes of some people, a few of them post on JC boards.

Agrees with Mr Haqrp from start to end.

Like the milkman of human kindness(??!!), the bigots combine ignorance with prejudice.

Asylum-seekers are not immigrants, and are no hard-working.

A proportion are allowed into each country under the 1951 Geneva Treaty as they are refugees form war and direct threats of being killed. The abnormal number of people fleeing Syria in particular, but also Libya and Somalia, are a result of the major surge in violence, much of it set off by us (Brits and Americans) in overthrowing regimes we don’t like in Libya and Iraq.

When they are (temporarily) located, they can be subject to harassment (especially in Germany, the main destination, where firebomb attacks on refugee centres, many now daubed with Swastikas, have multiplied this year).

France and other countries have complained that the UK is not taking its fair share of the recent wave of refugees, and Italy complains that it’s bearing the main burden.

So a couple of thousand of illegal immigrants blocking the Channel Tunnel, which can be dealt with quite quickly by effective policing, is presented as a swarm of ants threatening to sink the country under the sheer weight of numbers (!)

so take your milk of human kindness and throw it over your fellow bigots here, milkman

Sceppy pooh….you will get more compassion on the killing of an animal than the topic in hand..
I have seen many sit back and “not get involved”…their own words.. when topics like racism are discussed….or when a chatter is being sl@gged off…
But mention a fking animal in a negative way…even in jest…………..and all those quiet ones kick off

My post was started a few hours ago and finshed just now..so there have been posts in between that time….
Now lets not get carried away too much….lots of people have opinions on the immigrations problems we seem to be facing at the moment……for whatever reason the problems arise…when we see what seems to be an influx of non working benefit scroungers who come over here taking our jobs women and …well…you know……the history behind the person is not taken into account…
Also….the passion in which people put their point across may not be the correct way, but does not mean they are racist either…i get that
Merry has made some remarks that are very close to the bone…but whos bone? (I am not being rude)…whilst I have never personally witnessed a down and out racist comment from him..unlike Alias and Rev…he has made comments uneasy reading I agree

I used to have a customer…she was about 65…lovely lady…her elderly mum was still alive at the time….and had gone into hospital…she came into the shop and said “Kay my mums gone into hopsital and said…Mary, do you know in the hospital I have a darkie on either side of my bed who arent well”
I did say Mary…you cant go round saying things like that!…to her it was normal language….yes she saw people different…we are all different….the common factor is the species
Its a tough subject needless to say….it shouldnt be but it is….
Immigration should not be confused with racism…and its opinions
